Earlier we told you that we had fiddled around with our filler/foliage. What do you think?
A) just sweet white gypsophila or better known as baby’s breath perhaps
B ) a mix of gyp and skimmia ( the one that looks like clusters of mini deepest pink berries
C) just skimmia
I know which I like what do you think?

What does a wedding venue get up to in the winter? This winter we decided to up our game! Venue owner Ann Pinkerton Humanist Wedding Celebrant NI is going back to school for the winter and is a student Kays Flower School. We always include wedding flowers as part of our wedding packages and decided it was time to get some professional training. After careful research we found this wonderful well known school. Follow our journey, it gets exciting now! After some foundation theory we now get our very first delivery of flowers from Holland at some point through the night.

For couples who have married or visited Runaway you will see we turned our small floral ceremony room and bar into a temporary flower studio. More exciting news coming about our new studio in the spring. So fingers crossed exams are passed ( Janette O'Rourke , our practical tutor has extremely high standards!!) then Ann will hopefully 🤞🏻 move on through the modules.

HALLOWEEN WEDDINGS!
Thinking about getting married at Halloween? You may be surprised to read that Halloween was actually all about getting married way back in the mists of time! A couple of thousand years ago the Celts believed the veil between this world and the next was at its thinnest on Halloween night making it the perfect time to tie the knot as the marriage would not just last for the duration of the couples lives but for the afterlife too! Today it is celebrated in the Pagan calendar to welcome in the harvest and usher in the dark part of the year

In Pagan Ireland Samhain was celebrated on November 1st and is the Pagan new year. On October 31st, the eve of Samhain, the spirits of the dead were believed to revisit earth. Masks and disguises were worn to blend in with the demons and the visiting dead so that the living were not recognised and be kidnapped by the evil spirits or fairies.

It wasn’t always seen as a scary time. Traditionally people felt closest to their dead relatives at this time, the spirits were considered friendly and places were set at the table for them. Candles were lit in windows and homes to help the spirits find their way home.

Halloween was also all about finding your husband or wife or trying to tie the knot. Many old customs appeared over the years and around about the 18th century in Ireland a ring was hidden in a circle of mashed potato. The lucky person who found it was said to find their true love. Nuts were also burned in fires to reveal the name of the person you would marry . For the braver maidens, standing in a dark room at Halloween and looking over their shoulder into a mirror would reveal the image of their future husband… let’s hope it wasn’t one of those demons.

Today Halloween is becoming more popular as a wedding date and data reveals there has been a 10% rise in Halloween weddings in the UK with 271 weddings recorded last year (Hitched 2023) . It can be a time to get really creative with dark or rich coloured dresses and if a black dress isn’t for you, bridesmaids look fabulous in black. Flowers and candles in rich jewel colours look amazing and twilight, candlelit weddings are so atmospheric and wildly romantic. A quick browse on Etsy or Pinterest soon reveals a wealth of amazing ideas. In celebration of the wonderful history of Halloween or Samhain and marriage we dedicate this video to those dark and romantic souls! This fun shoot was created by a few Northern Irish wedding vendors who put this together for a bit of Halloween fun! We hope you love it as much as we do! Credits
