There's just one day to go until the monthly Craft and Producers' Market! 🤩 And with today's countdown comes another trader spotlight.

Today, we wanted to introduce you to K M Glassworks and the creative force behind the brand!

Kate, the owner of Kate Marr Glassworks, is from Newcastle upon Tyne, and she started her journey with glass when she attended a workshop just to try something different whilst on maternity leave. Initially thinking that she would be cut to shreds and would hate it, it turns out she absolutely loved it, and, as they say, the rest is history!

Since that impromptu workshop, Kate invested in a kiln and built her own home studio (initially starting from her kitchen table and running down the garden to the outhouse where she stored her kiln!). Kate has been trading since 2020, at different markets across the region, selling online and also stocking her products in some gorgeous independent shops.

Everything Kate sells is entirely handmade. All the glass is hand-cut and fused in a kiln over 870°c using a range of different glass-fusing techniques. Once cooled, Kate then hand-paints the glass using vitrail paints.

A lot of Kate's work is inspired by the North East of England; its coastline, countryside, culture and even her football team!

Kate says, "Trading at markets such as Durham is one of my favourite things about my business. It breaks up working from home. I get to meet so many of my lovely customers, for whom I am so grateful, and I've met some amazing traders who are so inspiring and talented."

Take a look at Kate's beautiful handiwork tomorrow from 9am until 4pm! 😍

With two days to go until our monthly Craft and Producers' Market, we thought we would highlight another one of our fabulous traders to you.

Today, it's the turn of the talented Michael at North East Captures. 📸

🖼 Michael's journey into the world of photography after the prospect of redundancy in his decade-long career in the IT industry prompted him to have a transformative career change and a degree in photography. This bold initiative resulted in a successful transition and a relocation to London, which presented exceptional opportunities to work with some of London’s most renowned photographers and also manage a photographic studio in Camden.

After four fulfilling years, Michael seized the opportunity to return to the North East, where he continued to work within the photography industry. He was in an extremely fortunate position, where his photography career led him on extraordinary journeys around the world 🌍, granting him access to exclusive locations and encounters with prominent individuals.

🌉 Michael had amassed a remarkable collection of North East landscape photography throughout his IT and photography careers. But it was only during the period of Furlough during the COVID-19 pandemic that he made the decision to share these with others rather than keeping them concealed on hard drives. This led to the birth of North East Captures. About this transition, Michael says, "Four years later, I have no regrets about this decision, and during this period, I have had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful individuals at all the events that I attend, with many becoming regular customers.”

Will you become another one of Michael's regular customers? Come to our Craft and Producers' Market on Thursday between 9am and 4pm to admire his outstanding shots of our beautiful area. 🏞🌄
