Summer is a great time to start potty training (if your little one is showing signs of being ready).

Here are some top tips:

👗 Ensure that you dress your toddler in clothes that are easy to pull up and down

🎤 Make sure that everyone who is involved in your child's potty training uses the same, consistent approach

📚 Use fun books and toys to keep your toddler entertained on the potty, if needed.

⏰ Keep your potty training routine regular and consistent.

🚽 Avoid keeping your child on the potty for long periods of time - a few minutes will be enough

👏 Praise your toddler for trying to do a wee, even if they don't do anything.

What are you proud of your toddler for today?

It might be something as simple as learning a new word or eating their vegetables!

Parenting toddlers can be tough; they are developing rapidly and testing boundaries all the time!

Are you worried about your toddler's emotional outbursts?

Toddlers experience a wide range of feelings and emotions in their second year and because certain areas of their brain are still developing at this time they are unable to work out how to solve conflicts. This often triggers an emotional outburst or tantrum.

This is completely normal and although it can be frustrating and tiring for parents, it is generally nothing to be concerned about.

Although toddlers can be awkward, aggressive, and impatient, they will also begin to empathise with the feelings of the people closest to them too. Hold on to these moments of empathy - they will remind you of how proud you are of your toddler when you find yourself in the middle of a more testing moment!

You may be relieved to know that during their third year, toddlers will start to gain more control of their emotions, as their brain develops further. They will cope better with stress and conflict than in their second year and any emotional outbursts will become fewer as time goes on.
