I talk alot privately about why I do what I do and what matters most to me, but sometimes the fear of sounding like a broken record stops me pushing the ethics and values behind my business as much as I should.
But after a few wonderful conversations this week, I am reminded that my reasons for this business are what make it all that it is.... and I am proud of it.
So I am going to be a little louder about it, starting from now.
We work hard to source products where we can trace the journey. We buy from a variety of sizes of businesses, from large internationals to small artisan makers, but they all have one thing in common.
•No slave or child labour.
•Ethical practices.
•Use recycled or repurposed materials where possible.
•Eco credentials - demonstrating a drive towards being carbon neutral, supporting tree planting, green projects, or all of the above.
•Handmade
We ourselves make from repurposed wood, recycle, or reuse all packaging, including exploring pulping practises for our wider business needs. We donate to eco projects, world food programmes, and refugee charities. We try to give where we can.
We don't claim to be perfect. We know we have some room to grow and improve as the business grows. But we try every day to make the best choice we can to be conscious of people and our planet.
We don't dream of being rich. But we do dream of being comfortable enough to give back in a range of ways.We dream of having a live and work space to make more in-house, a small holding to grow more & space to support those in need.
Our products cost more because people who have the skills to make these items deserve to be paid. Our products cost more because sourcing them cheap means someone suffered, or something suffered - most likely green space.
We dont say any of this to be praised or rewarded. We say it because it matters. We say it because we don't see any other way of being.
This planet, wildlife and green spaces, & its people are our collective responsibility. And we protect it with every decision we make.
