Rex’s Reptiles is moving out of Moray 🚚

We’re extremely sad to say we’re no longer taking bookings due to us moving. It’s a big move so we’ve decided to close for the foreseeable.

Thank you so much to everyone who booked, donated or just supported us by liking our page and posts. Because of you we’ve been able to rescue and rehome animals as well as offering all the animals in our care the best environments and care we could.

The scorpion babies have come off mums back 🦂

That means it’s time for us to separate them from mum, she doesn’t have the best maternal instincts and may eat them if we leave them together.

Can anyone guess how many babies we have? 👀

We need to do a bit of research on how to look after these guys and it may be a while before we can let them go to new homes but if you’re interested then please message us.

Stevie our blue tongue skinks (not in the picture that's Tillie our Tegu) new vivarium has arrived ! We can't wait to show you all once it's setup !

Well safe to say this was a surprise 😂

We recently got another species of Asian forest scorpion and did wonder why we never saw her as much as Edward...... Well this is why, looks like this lady was rather busy before being dispatched to us and is now a mother ! 🦂😂

Apologies to anybody that is now going to have nightmares 😂

Our calendar is filling up so fast ! Safe to say I think we can put it down to all the fantastic events we have attended so far so the fact we have so many more to come is just so exciting !

A FAQ we get is how long before should I book ?
To be honest there is never too early to book, we recommend as soon as you have a date and time sorted get that booking in, booking dates are filled anywhere from a couple of days in advance all the way up to several Months in advance ! Just drop us a message and we will try and get you in on or as close to the date and time your looking for 🙂

So in short "It is never too early to book a date !"

Rex's Reptiles Karaoke 🤔😂

No I am not doing my best rendition of Meatloaf's I would do anything for love (although it would be rather entertaining ) today we found ourselves at a Holiday resort !

Park dean resorts booked us at one of their locations near Pitlochry 😁

What a great booking this was ! Was worth the journey and we can't wait to go back again in a couple of weeks !

Well we finally got a UV torch !

This cool reaction is thanks to a part of the scorpions exoskeleton called the "hyaline layer", the layer stands the test of time too with fossilized scorpions still glowing under UV light !

Why do they do it ? Scientists still don't fully know but it's thought it may help them know the difference between day and night so they know when they can hunt 🦂 there are alot of other hypothesis which I won't go into as this post will be far to long ! 😂

Looks like Bo and Rex have synced up their shed cycle this time 😂 Less than Ideal when they are the most requested for bookings🤦🏼‍♂️

These guys usually take up to a week to shed, I have made the mistake in the past and missed Rex's blue stage and his old skin started to come off at an event, safe to say I will not be making that mistake again !

Unfortunately for all our bookings in the coming week these guys won't be available until 2 days after they have had a nice shed.

Sorry to any we may disappoint but as all will agree the animals health and well being takes priority 🙂

Maybe I need to get a 3rd large snake to avoid this problem in the future 👀🤔😂

Tillie enjoyed some free roam time this morning, she took a liking to some curtains that we just took down, soon after this picture she went into alligator mode as she thought I had food so that marked the end of her free roam time, she wouldn't bite me on purpose but a lizard walking at you at pace with her mouth open gets a little unnerving at times 😂🦎🐊

Always very reluctant to handle our Scorpions (we may have got another we are yet to announce 😅)
But every now and again it's a good way to properly show people how interesting these little guys are and that they aren't scary little death crabs with a stinger that will kill you.

Point to note, we tend to not let others handle the scorpions on a basis of risk to the person handling and most importantly to the animal itself, however there are limited cases where we try and accommodate the experience to a client if possible 🦂

Stevie update 🦎

Stevie has settled in very well, doing everything she should and happily nearing the end of her Quarantine period.

Didn't think she would eat a great deal but was left surprised seeing her absolutely demolish a plate of dog food, no idea where she put it all !😂

Just had a good shed from her and got 4 cute little skin gloves which is always great to see from shedding lizards 🥳

We will slowly introduce her into some of our bookings before anything too busy, although we don't think she will have any problems having plenty of previous experience 🙂

Got up this morning with a hint of crustacean frustration due to the water / soil line in Vimto and Tangos enclosure being too close and saturating the soil !

Fixed the issue and found both little dudes hanging out in there own little caves 🦀

Added some Isopod friends in there too to keep any mold at bay, although they may serve as a pretty good food source so the crabs will keep there population in check !

Should establish into a great little habitat for these guys 🏠

Another busy weekend 🦎🐍🕷 Still finding time to get some interaction time with one of our new arrivals 🦎 Stevie is settling in so well, a very active and inquisitive little dude 😊 some one on one feeding and free roam time, showing me plenty of that blue tounge !

ENGLAND VS USA WORLD CUP PREDICTION ⚽️🏆🦎 Second instalment ! Bit of a last minute one we have had a very busy few days so the ones to come shouldn’t be past Tillies bed time 😂

Well socks our not so slingy sling has moulted and is looking beautiful ! Here she is demonstrating why I tend to not get arboreal tarantulas out at our programmes 😂 Im not kidding when I say they jump ! And its not a joke when we call them "teleporters" 🕷😅 I can appreciate this is some people's worst nightmare but I think this is amazing ! On a side note the carpet is messy due to me conducting a water change and spot clean on everyone so tends to get messy with the substrate coming out with some of their enrichment stuff, joys of reptile keeping ! 🥲

No one believes us when we say how sassy Aurora can be 😂 If you have had a presentation from us you will know all about what hognoses do to defend themselves, hooding up like a cobra, hissing and bluff strikes (mouth closed) are some of those things. Here you can see Aurora is very offended by my presence 😂 🐍

Decided to do a series of Tillies predictions for the World cup ! ⚽️ We will be covering England games 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 (I apologise about saying scotland in the video, safe to say I am not that into football 😅) Hope you all enjoy !

Tillie always has issues keeping the food on the plate 😂 we tend to feed her outside the enclosure for this reason as no one wants to find buried rotting meat while spot cleaning 🤮 Beef mince, green beans and whole meal bread was on the cards with a nice sprinkling of omega 3 oil, D3 supplement and some calcium. Tillie is our most regular eater, being fed every 2 - 3 days, shes a bottomless pit and LOVES her food 🍗🦎

Change it up with a quick lil video today ! 🕷 "How do you get your inverts / Tarantulas ? Do you go out and find them ?" To answer your question feel free to give this little video a watch and see me enabling my addiction of small crawly things 😂 Couple of things in the video to rectify 1. I sounds like I say "its bad" that you can order them online, I actually meant to say it sounds bad, the whole industry / process is perfectly safe for the animal and courier and allows people who live in the top end of nowhere (i.e Me)to have the oppurtunity to get these animals. 2. I said Costa Rican stripe leg its actualy a Costa Rican zebra leg and when I say species is Aphonopelma I should have said "Genus" dont want to be giving out any false info ! Will do a seperate naming post soon as still need to announce the scorpions name ! 😅🦂

So another food that tilly likes added to the list ! Have no idea where she puts it all she doesnt stop eating 🐊🍌 Good job she gets plenty of exercise ! She is also currently in shed which is great to see although tegus can be a lil grumpy during this time so some extra care is taken 😅
