Hello 2024 & a happy new year for you all. It’s been a long break while I found my feet in gorgeous Cheshire, but now I feel inspired and ready to move forward with floral design and wedding/event work. There are some exciting projects in the pipeline, and I’d love to meet with more new couples who are planning their big day for this year. ~ANNOUNCEMENT~
I’ve made the personal decision to relocate Petal & Leaf to Cheshire! It’s not been an easy decision to make; and I have loved every second of working with many amazing customers, good friends to myself and the business, and to incredible locally owned businesses. Thank you to everyone for all your support, well wishes and admiration of the cutting garden. I’m so excited for the next chapter in Cheshire and have started building links with the local flower growing network out there.

I’ll be at the studio for another week, working on two more weddings. If you need your flower fix, drop by and browse, or give me a call or message.

Things are shifting slightly at Petal & Leaf HQ in Abergavenny for the next few weeks, and you may not see me based at the studio so often.

I’m going to take some time out to work on future plans & some exciting new projects, source new British growers via Flowers from the Farm, and of course, work alongside the fantastic couples who came to me for their wedding flowers and decorations.

I’ve been keeping my head down and working long days in the garden these last two weeks so that the newly transferred plants would be happy when I step into a busy few weeks of wedding and tribute flowers. The studio is open but I may be based elsewhere most days - you can always call or message for any flower relayed queries!

Happy Mother’s Day everyone

I hope all your wonderful ladies enjoy their bouquets as much as I enjoyed making each one. It still amazes me that every bouquet really is as unique and gorgeous as the person it’s being made for.

Give lots of hugs, squeezes and throw the love around like gold dust! We all know there’s nobody quite like a Mum. I’ll be placing my last three tulips down at a special place today.

There’s still time to pre-order a bouquet for Mother’s Day, before the order book closes on Friday 17th. There will be elegant and subtle pastels, as well as bright flashes of colour. You can expect anenomes, narcissi, tanacetum, ranunculus and the most incredible tulips (I can’t rate them enough). These are all British grown flowers, so if you are becoming more conscious about where your purchases originate, this will be the best gift you could give.

Celebrating this day more than ever - OK, I don’t have a team working directly with me; it doesn’t mean I don’t see the hard graft, spirit, determination, creativity kindness and support that women demonstrate every day. Not to mention a true commitment to rebalancing the planet to a safer and greener future.

I have the luxury of balancing work between two aspects: running a small floristry studio as well as establishing a small cut flower patch alongside. The weeks before a busy Mother’s Day and decent weather mean I can embrace my time in the garden now. My brain has been ticking about with colour schemes for 2023 and the verdict is… a lot of jewel tones, with calming whites and subtle pastels for balance. I’m digging textures of grasses too, so will be extending my range and knowledge of these. Herbs as well for fragrance and their uniqueness in my bouquets.

Now the real fun can begin… here’s to a happy 2023 in our gardens!

**MOTHER’S DAY 2023**

We are now taking pre-orders (and pre-orders only) for Mother’s Day bouquets, vase arrangements, or hatbox designs. If your mother or mother figure has an existing, beloved vase, you can bring it along to the studio and I’ll create something lovely for the special day. You can expect the créme de la créme of our British spring flowers, foliage and blossom. Spring flowers compliment Mother’s Day so beautifully!

So it turns out florists can’t stay away from flowers or gardens too long…. All the beautiful ingredients here were picked fresh from the garden today, and I love the way the sunlight pours through the petals.

I thought I was a midsummer kind of person, this time of year in spring might overtake that. New inspiration for bouquets incoming, so look out for those available very soon!

Bouquets for collection: Monday 13th between 10am & 3pm 💕Tuesday 14th between 10am & 12pm

Bouquets for delivery : Tuesday 14th between 12pm & 4pm.

All British grown, you can expect a gorgeous quality of narcissi, snapdragons, alstroemeria, rancunculus, tulips, dianthus, plus locally sourced foliage.

A recent comment from a family who approached me to create a tribute spray and vase arrangements for grandchildren to keep in memory of their lovely grandmother. Receiving comments such as this mean I can take a deep breath and feel honoured I could play a (small and humble) part in paying respect to Valerie.

Dear Rachel,

Andrew and I wanted to thank you for the beautiful flowers you provided for Valerie's funeral today. Many of the mourners commented on them. The grandchildren have taken the daffodil vases and we have kept the spray and turned it into lots of little posie jars. They are exactly the kind of flowers Valerie would have enjoyed. The fact that they have been sustainably grown and sourced is really important to us.

My final arrangement for a funeral this year, putting all my energy and attention into making it a special one for the family. Many favourite flowers have been included to pay tribute to a wonderful lady. It makes me think she loved the spring and early summer.

Autumnal basket arrangements are available to order now. The flowers are a combo of my own homegrown flowers which dried beautifully, and , locally grown flowers or grown within the UK. I’ve created these using sustainable floristry methods and materials which can be repurposed or composted. I think they are just stunning when they catch the autumn sunlight!

Two mixed buckets off to a lovely family wedding this weekend. The desired colour palettes were all right here in the cutting garden so I was delighted to provide. You can see purples, whites, yellows and oranges with a twinkle from my beloved panicum. And spot the lush burgundy of the amaranth, grown just down the road in Crickhowell (.farmers). This is one reason I grow my own flowers, so please do get in touch if you would like to talk about mixed buckets for a wedding or special event.

Our second Food Festival is complete… a fantastic time involving hand-ties at record speed, dried flower LOVE - the likes of which were unprecedented, seed sowing with the children of Abergavenny, and garden tours, which were my favourite part of this weekend. Sharing my vision and plans for the garden & studio, learning about the flowers you all love and include in your own gardens, and meeting some very inspiring people for linkups and future collaborations. Thanks everyone 🙏

Looking ahead to this coming week which starts with our Queen’s funeral. I will be creating three bouquets for Abergavenny’s mayor and the local branch of the British Royal Legion to lay down in tribute of an incredible spirit throughout our lives.

Then onto seed sowing, organising and cleaning the greenhouse which is now resembling a storage unit…. Spring bulbs will be ordered, and beds cleared in preparation for their arrival.

Finally, workshops to be announced, and an upcoming dried flower wedding to be planned. - very excited for this one!

Jazzy bouquets leaving us for their moment at a wedding this afternoon. I am looking forward autumnal but every now again the urge to highlight favourite summer colours remerge. I am using so many of my own flowers from the garden now. No unnatural air miles here.

Floral tribute from earlier today. Keeping it elegant and peaceful, with plenty of greenery and a loose, flowing style. “She would have loved it” are such beautiful words to remember somebody by. Providing graveside flowers is always such a wonderful role to be given, such a small gesture which means a lot to a family.
