A frost-free March means our Foxglove tree (Paulownia tomentosa) is in full bloom in our Pavilion Cottage garden, attracting the birds and the bees.

Just potting up summer flowering plants in my potting shed and thought "hang on a mo' that sounds like swallows". With all the birdsong in the walled gardens and the woodpeckers hammering in the woodland at Galloway House Gardens, I had to double check. They're really back! Love their chatter and dive-bombing the pool at Pavilion Cottage. Maybe you've heard them too. I haven't heard cuckoos here yet though.

We are having a pop-up tent opposite Galloway House Gardens car park over the next few weeks.

As this is a weather permitting event I will be popping up this afternoon- Wednesday 17 April between 3.00 and 5.00 ish.

Come and say hello.

I will have gorgeous painterly, speciality tulips and blousy daffodils, as you can see from the photo of the flowers picked fresh this morning here in Garlieston.

Flowers from the Van gift vouchers are also available.

Other pop-up dates:
Saturday 20 April between 11.00am and 13.00pm
Sunday 21 April between 11.00am and 13.00pm.

All the flowers currently for sale at our pop-up or sold in Nest Wigtown are locally and organically grown in Garlieston.

On these miserable grey days, we need a little something to cheer us up and I'm delighted to say that Alex from Flowers from the Van will be returning with her locally grown flowers this weekend. These will include stunning speciality tulips and recycled can posies of gorgeous daffodils.
These will be available from The Hut to the rear of ReadingLasses from 11am ish on Friday morning.

There's no better way to close the working week than by welcoming a new Biosphere Proud Supporter. Today it's Flowers from the Van, located at Garlieston and on the same site as Escape To Galloway holiday cottage. The flower farm sells to local and British florists, local businesses and individuals, also offering seasonal plants and produce sales via their farm gate stall. A nature-friendly farming approach encourages birds and bees, with a portion of flower seed allocated just for the birds to enjoy. Plants and flowers are packaged in biodegradable packaging, boxes and plant pots are reusable/reused, sustainably sourced, or made from recycled biodegradable waste. Rainwater is collected water for use in the garden beds and all spent material from the flower farming business, as well as plant waste and eggshells from holiday cottage guests, is turned into nutritious compost. Fantastic work to support people and nature in this UNESCO Biosphere!

What a week it has been and huge progress has been made with the renovations thanks to Reb and Andrew. The shop is now one open space and the flat is taking shape nicely too. It's so exciting to see it all coming together at last! I will post some pictures (I promise) when I have managed to get them off my phone!
Nest will be open as usual this Friday and Saturday and I'm looking forward to sharing The Hut with the talented stallholders at ReadingLasses' second Christmas Market. On Saturday you will find Louisa Birdsall Designs, Jollypotter, The Wee Garden Gallery (Elven Glass), South West Soaps, Lynn Morley Glass Art, The Ethical Dairy, The Grey Rabbit and Flowers from the Van exhibiting their wonderful creations.
Of course, there will be all the delicious treats on offer in the cafe too!

Heading for the Nest birch bark pots of 10 Paperwhite Narcissus. Keep moist to enjoy tall (40cm), fragrant, white flowers in 6-8 weeks. A beautiful present.
