through warm temperature

I’m looking forward to sharing this performance. It’s been a minute and I’m so excited!

Opening Performance Edinburgh Art Festival.

Through progressions of vocal callings accompanied by live melodies and choreographies, this work pays homage to a series of conversations and the living archive.

The conversations serve as a guidance in reconnecting with natural sources; reflects on our bodies undergoing change influenced by constructs of time and the environment; and foregrounds the relationship between health and embodiment practices that centres individuals’ diasporic interpretations of well-being.

through warm temperatures is about affirming past beliefs in castor oil: a natural remedy, an elixir, and an historic and abundant natural source that transcends categorisation and boundaries.

BODY REMEDY - GEOGRAPHICAL ECHOES // 2024 PROGRAMME

🗓️ 02 Jul – 02 Aug 2024
📍 Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA, Glasgow)

Body Remedy’s 2024 programme: Geological Echoes extends from last year’s theme where we explored the “weather” of our bodies in relation to physical responses to sound and vibration. Continuing our ongoing conversation with earthly matter through sound and movement, Geological Echoes is framed by the terrestrial processes of rock cycles.

Through understanding the ways ongoing relational processes like heating, cooling, weathering, sedimentation and crystallisation profoundly alter our inhabited landscapes and shape the earth, we uncover how these same processes pattern our personal and communal aliveness.

Discover our full programme at www.mybodyremedy.com/2024 (link in bio).

All classes are FREE and open level for black people and people of colour who identify as women and non-binary.

Sound and Music Production with Plantainchipps

In this workshop, we will be tapping into the qualities of sound and how it has been and can be used to heal. In the first half of the workshop, we will be looking into the ways that sound was originally used to heal and how much that has changed or stayed the same over time. In the second half, we will listen to a mix/something produced and try out some of the methods used.

WORKSHOPS BY ME
Free booking required see link in bio

Confluence: The voice is a search party
Sat 19th Aug | 2:00pm- 5:00pm

Responding to Samra’s Mayanja’s film ‘Blueprint for the Deep’ and its surrounding themes of sound, erasure and survival in the abyss. Mele Broomes will lead Black and POC participants in a sonic workshop, or choir, that centres on the fall and response - the sway, the swing and the break that requires you to trust that your voice will be felt in the void whether in this moment or another.

Note: This event is exclusively for Black people and people of colour. The workshop is open level and no experience is required.

Movement and Sound Scores
Sun 10th Sept | 11:00AM - 15 :00PM (with lunch break)

This workshop will begin with a physical warm up, body conditioning and stretching. Following this we will start generating choreography through guided tasks and improvisations. The movement created will be used in the latter part of the workshop and accompanied by self-generated sound, voice, and text

Note: No experience required

learning to receive love
makes loving and trusting
a pleasure
as I slowly realise - I am allowed
to be loved
this process reminded me
to actively continue to seek and nature meaningful relations
this process to me was part of loving-self
it was felt
it was moment
to reflect on the black people
in my life - that make my life
feel valued
thank you for seeing me
it makes those scary days
become less & less the narrative of existence

RESET by Alberta Whittlemongrel

The moving-image work is informed by the writings of q***r theorist, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, interweaving gothic imagery, fears of contagion, xenophobia and the ensuing moral panic that often follows such anxieties.

Working Reveals: A live rendition of Wrapped Up In This

1st May 8pm on the Isle of Mull
A womxn is called upon for service, following in the footsteps of her past generation and members of the Old World. With her ancestors alongside to guide and protect her, she leads herself to the opportunity she has been waiting for. With pride, she transcends physical distance to reach her apex; her journey is euphoric, visceral, and spiritual in nature.
