What is funeral poverty?

Do you know that an average funeral in Scotland costs £3500.

Could imagine how much additional stress and worry this may bring to a bereaved family who have no money to cover this cost.

There is government support to help meet this cost but often the average payment is £1800.

So, we set up Thistle Ceremonies SCIO.

By raising monies for our Funeral Fund, we aim to provide financial help for those most in need in society living in Scotland, who have been impacted by the increasing effect of funeral poverty.

We offer to cover the cost of a Thistle celebrant led service for free if the bereaved is in receipt of one of the following benefits;
Child Tax Credit, Universal Credit, Income Support, Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit, Housing benefit, JSA, ESA, or SCOTGOV funeral fund application.

We may also be able to assist with other costs if funds are available.

There were fireworks and fun as we started November with a bang 🎆

Not only did we celebrate the love and commitment of all these wonderful couples, but Lucy conducted our first pet naming ceremony for two gorgeous dogs after she married their mum and dad.

Thank you so, so much to everyone who has donated. With your generosity, we have been able to order some fantastic presents for our families who will be visiting throughout December as well as children staying in Scotland's oncology wards during Christmastime. We are hoping to provide around 600 presents total this year, and it is only with your help that this is possible! 🎅
