Following yesterday’s announcement from the Scottish Government, Glasgow Life venues will remain temporarily closed to the public until at least the end of February.

Following the government’s decision to extend lockdown, Glasgow Life’s venues and services will remain closed until at least Thursday 7 May. Our teams are working hard behind the scenes to make our much-loved programmes and activities available online while also doing everything they can to ensure we’re ready to reopen our doors and welcome the people of Glasgow back into our venues as soon as it’s safe to do so.

Our thoughts continue to be with the families and loved ones of those directly affected by coronavirus and we continue to be immensely grateful to our NHS and other frontline health, social care and emergency services heroes, who are working round the clock to keep us all safe.

We’ll continue to put the wellbeing of our customers, communities and colleagues first, and we want to say thank you for your patience and understanding as we look forward to a healthy, confident future together.

17/03/2020

In line with the government’s advice on reducing social contact, Glasgow Life has taken the difficult decision to suspend all services from this evening. This will apply to every Glasgow Life venue across the city which will shut from close of play on Tuesday 17 March. We expect the suspension to continue until the end of April.

Glasgow Life already offers a range of online resources for people to use, and we are intending to extend these services as soon as possible.

All Glasgow Sport activities will be suspended, including indoor and outdoor activities as well as the outreach programme. Glasgow Club membership fees will be automatically frozen (we will do this, you do not need to contact us). Museums, concert halls and libraries will close. Community facilities will close to the public and we will contact tenants to discuss access. We will prioritise how we continue to deliver our targeted essential services.

We are sorry for the inconvenience and disruption this will cause. Further updates will be posted here as soon as they are available: https://bit.ly/2QmB5I7

It’s no surprise that Handel’s Messiah continues to draw audiences back year after year. Put simply, there is nothing quite like it. We spoke to Hue&Cry's Pat Kane last month before he played at the Kelvingrove Bandstand and Amphitheatre.

This is what he said:

"I used to play the bandstand when it was a much humbler affair and I used to play in lots of protest bands there in the early ‘80s and I was involved in political rallies at the bandstand - it has a lot of very strong memories for me and it’s a very resonant place."
