StreetCar Festivals aim to introduce newcomers to the exciting world of grassroots motorsport. The festivals are a celebration of grassroots motorsport featuring multiple different StreetCar disciplines at the same venue on the same day. The event at Knockhill Racing Circuit will include a Cross Country Tyro, a Touring Assembly, and an Autotest demonstration.

Stansons RSAC Three Lochs Classic

For our final event of 2025, we returned to the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club in Rhu for the Stansons RSAC Three Lochs Classic. We were delighted to have received a record entry for recent times of 71 cars, with the most senior being 113 years old: the 1912 Alldays & Onions driven by Rachel Dover. The entry list was a presentation of 110 years of motoring, with famous marques such as Jaguar and MG particularly well represented.

Our new sponsors Stansons were much in evidence throughout the day, with Ruari Gillespie flagging off the first few cars before jumping into his own car to take part in the run. The opportunity was taken to raise funds for Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race Against Dementia charity, a cause dear to Ruari’s heart.

Following last year’s monsoon conditions, the weather played its part in ensuring a successful event, with unbroken sunshine and temperatures of 27-28 degrees during the day.

Unfortunately the route had to be shortened owing to a road traffic accident unconnected with the event, but the participants greatly enjoyed the challenging roads of Argyll and the stunning scenery.

The Albion Cup for the best car in the Run was won by Bill McCreath from Buchlyvie, driving a 1927 Alvis. This beautiful trophy was presented to the then Scottish Automobile Club in 1910, when it was awarded in annual competition to “the commercial motor vehicle driver shewing highest merit in respect of the care intelligence in upkeep and maintenance of his vehicle”.

Planning now begins for our three 2026 events: the RSAC Spring Run in April, the RSAC Scottish Rally in July and the Stansons RSAC Three Lochs Classic in August.

RSAC Motorsport joins with the motorsport family in mourning the passing on Saturday of Dai Roberts and Julian Grimwade.

Our thoughts are with their families and close friends at this time. We also wish James Williams a full recovery.

We think too of all the rescue and recovery crews involved in the incidents, the marshals and officials, and those competitors who were first on scene.

The Spring Run welcomed both familiar and new faces and cars to its base at the Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing Gym at Milngavie. In brilliant sunshine, 45 entrants enjoyed a route taking in some of the best roads around the Campsie Fells and the Trossachs, with some lovely views for the passengers. The busy road conditions, full car parks and scores of cyclists testified to the lovely Spring weather and kept the drivers focused. There were many compliments at the finish about the route choice.

After much socialising at the finish, everyone headed inside to the gym’s café where the awards were presented by Andrew Pemberton, RSAC Motorsport’s Chairman.

Education and training for children and young people is pivotal in ensuring that continues to gain traction. With our "Youth Voice Award", we wanted to recognise those who are encouraging and supporting children and young people to get stuck into motorsport, whether as a competitor, mechanic, marshal or trainee Official, or another volunteer role.

And the winner was Junior 1000 Ecosse Challenge.

The whole committee are brilliant, what a team. They work tirelessly together to promote rally driving to 14 to 17 year olds in Scotland. Roy Campbell, the chairman is a wonderful ambassador for rally and tirelessly fund raising to promote the sport and training days for young people. Rhona Dickie as coordinator keeps everybody organised and on track to be at events to promote the championship in Scotland and throughout the UK, recruiting new drivers from every walk of life from near and far, often with no former connection to rallying. And all the other members of the committee who endlessly give up their time and travel long distances to train youngsters in all aspects of the sport; training them to become rally stars of the future or simply to build confidence where it may have been lacking before, pulling in professionals from all areas of the industry and outside but related areas of motorsport to train them. They make things personal: they will go out of their way to help individuals who may be finding things difficult and pull them forward to become both proud and responsible drivers, simultaneously creating a camaraderie that lasts well beyond the years of the challenge. The Challenge was started by David “Digby” Barlow in 2012 and is being supported as enthusiastically today by the all-volunteer committee and is finding innovative strategies for reaching out to new audiences and giving opportunities to all those that they can and creating a healthy future for rally in Scotland.

In Memoriam

The Board of RSAC Motorsport are sad to announce the passing of a dear friend and colleague, Catherine Higgins, on Monday 13 January after a short illness.

Catherine was well known to Competitors and Officials alike having been the Secretary of the Meeting for the Scottish Rally and several other events over many years, greeting generations of competitors at signing on with a friendly face.

Our thoughts and condolences are with her husband, Ian, and the rest of the family.

We will update you with funeral arrangements in due course.

The Pentti Airikkala Trophy

"The Pentti Trophy" is presented annually by the Board of RSAC Motorsport to a person or group working beyond the call of duty behind the scenes of the Scottish Rally. Named after and gifted to the club by the Finnish rally star in 1990, it has since been won by representatives of virtually every part of the organising team, as well as representatives of the Forestry Commission, the Barony College, Dumfries, and in 2018, the members of Moffat and District Community Council.

This year it has been awarded to Alistair Reid for his unstinting leadership and organisation of the rally's Service Park in recent years at Heathhall, Lockerbie and now Dalbeattie. Fittingly, Jonathan Lord and Ron Cowan were delighted to present Alistair with the trophy at the Scottish Borders Hill Rally at Forrest Estate last weekend where he was the Service Area Commander.
