Forgot to post Fun Fact Friday... So let's have Fun Fact Father's Day!
Here's Kaia talking about our Samia Eri Silk Moths!
(love how she says butterflies π)
Happy fathers day to all the amazing men out there today!

Princess Daisy has had a busy couple of days... A few mealworms for her tonight as a treat for not biting me π
Enjoy β₯
For some reason my fun fact Friday didn't post this morning! Shocking I know!
So here it is! It was a rushed one as we were running late for school π
but here's Kaia telling us about tarantulas!
Starring Sancho the Mexican Red Knee βΊ
Tarantulas may seem fluffy but those hairs are there for a purpose! When they're scared or threatened they use their back legs to kick these hairs (called urticating hairs) off the abdomen toward the treat. The hairs are irritating and can cause a reaction that would distract the threat while the tarantula runs away to hide!
Not all tarantulas do this though, only the "New World" ones. These ones are less likely to bite as this is their first line of defense.. But if you were to keep persisting then they would more than likely bite you!
It's fun fact Friday - Kaia chose this one, we will do the tarantula next week π
Today we're looking at hermit crabs and their shells!
As they grow, hermit crabs move themselves into larger shells that have been discarded by older crabs. This is a very vulnerable move for them as many predators can swoop in to catch them if they are not quick enough!
The false leaf katydid..
From egg, to adult!
Enjoy π

It's fun fact Friday! These Fridays do roll around quickly!
Here's Kaia talking about Scorpions today! β₯
It's here again - Fun Fact Friday! This one's a slimey one!
Kaia absolutely loves the snails - this one is her favourite! My oldest snail Zuri at a whopping 5 years old - she's just a few months younger than Kaia!

It's Fun Fact Friday Featuring Kaia!
Today's fun fact is about Stick insects! This particular stick insect was doing exactly what Kaia explains in the video π
#funfactfriday #indianstickinsect
We have lots of babies here at the moment! Caterpillars, Katydids, stick insects, isopods... But I was not expecting these!! π
There are 3 species all on this lil ball! Springtails, panda isopods and the newest babies to join team Creature Connections... HEADLIGHT COCKROACHES!
I am not sure exactly how many of them there are as they are a burrowing species... Lets hope they're thriving in there just like the panda isopods (it's taken me 2 years to get a good breeding batch of the pandas!)
Thought I'd create a fun fact Friday featuring my daughter Kaia! She loves to get involved with the bugs and I absolutely love that she has no fear!! So here's the first (of many) Fun Fact Fridays!
Lets start it off with the Thorny Cricket!
#funfactfriday #Thornycricket
Nom nom nom
Here's Princess Daisy chowing down on a locust! She hasn't visited any one as of yet because she literally is the most stubborn of crickets compared to Princess Peach - she stands her ground and does not want to leave her enclosure, so I simply don't force her to! Peach on the other hand all but runs out when the doors open π
Who'd have thought that these super cool bugs could have such different personalities! π
Caught my oldest and only remaining adult Florida Katydid having a little clean earlier on! β₯ Love these weird lil creatures! She's so pretty!
Pancake Slugs!
How cool are they?! They are pretty slow, pretty much always look dead, but are very cute! π
Needing names for this duo so fire some suggestions at me! π
What makes a Rainforest a Rainforest?
Find out in my new Rainforest Workshops!
Available for schools, nurseries and scout groups across the north!
Bowser is starting to slow down a lot now ππ
But will still happily much a waxworm β₯
This is the only down side to owning invertebrates... They don't live for a very long time.
I got Bowser as an adult back in January 2023, so 11 months is absolutely fantastic!
This may well be his last meal, but who knows.. He may surprise us β₯
I want to see all the bellies today! Post your pets bellies in the comments! Let's see how many we can get! π
Don't forget that we are running a competition to win a family meet and greet session!!
Get your kiddos to draw their favourite critter and send it to me at
[email protected] with their name and age!
Competition closes on Friday 1st December at midnight so get them in before then for a chance to win!!
Even Stanley is getting involved!!
Meet the 5 adult tarantulas!
Phoenix - Mexican Red Knee
Aztec - Desert Blonde
Peaches - Striped Knee
Bandit - Brazilian White Knee
Kodac - unknown...?
We can do any kind of session! Just ask us and we will do our best to accommodate your needs βΊ
