Calling for any musicians, bands or choirs who would like to perform at our bandstands at Ripon Spa Gardens, Pateley Bridge Recreation Ground, Knaresborough Castle and Valley Gardens in Harrogate.

You could enjoy performing in our scenic gardens or the setting of an historic castle on a Sunday afternoon from 25 May until 31 August 2025, between 2 - 4pm.

There's no charge for using the bandstand facilities but you will need to have Public Liability Insurance. If you’re interested and would like more information, please email [email protected]

20 more secure knife bins are being installed across North Yorkshire this month.

In partnership with City of York Council and North Yorkshire Police bins are being rolled out in Ripon, Knaresborough, Boroughbridge, Northallerton, Stokesley, Thirsk, Tadcaster, Selby, Malton, Pickering, Scarborough, Whitby, Eastfield, Colburn, Richmond, Skipton and York.

More than 1,600 bladed articles were dropped into a secure knife bin in Harrogate during a trial.

👉 Update on the big wheel in Harrogate.

Due to the weather forecast this weekend the expected winds are too high for the big wheel attraction to operate.

The big wheel will close on Friday evening around 7pm to allow it to be taken down before the high winds arrive.

This is 2 days earlier than originally planned which is disappointing news but safety must come first.

We were recently at The Harrogate Mumbler Awards Ceremony as the Valley Gardens were nominated for 2 categories.

One of those categories was a new award for this year, the Mumblers’ Favourite FREE family event, class or attraction, which the Valley Gardens went on to win.

If you’ve visited the gardens recently you may have noticed there’s been a new gazebo installed and many people have been wondering what it was going to become.

Our parks team have recently planted 300 scented roses, with climbing roses around the base of the gazebo. The climbing varieties are Compassion, Madame Alfred Carrier and Alfresco. Next to them is a carpet rose called Sweet child of Mine and in the teardrop shapes there are Charles de Mills, Buff Beauty, Felcia and Roseraie De L'Hay which are all bush roses.

The grass around rose beds will be mowed to show off the rose beds and encourage the public to walk around and to fully enjoy the blooms in the autumn. It is planned to extend the rose garden next winter.

A huge thank you goes to the Friends Of Valley Gardens Harrogate who made a large contribution towards the cost of gazebo and the council funded the roses.

We look forward to seeing them blooming next year.

Unfortunately the Little Bird Artisan Market here at Valley Gardens has been cancelled on Saturday and Sunday this weekend due to the poor weather forecast.

Weather permitting, the market will return next weekend, Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 December. Follow Little Bird Markets for updates.

Due to strong wind gusts from , we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel Saturday 7th December's market at Harrogate Valley Gardens.

The national RHS Britain in Bloom results were announced yesterday in Manchester and on The One Show yesterday evening.

Congratulations go to Grassington in Bloom who were awarded silver gilt in the village category - a great result for North Yorkshire.

Also from further across Yorkshire were Roberttown in Bloom - gold (large village category) and Todmorden in Bloom – gold (town category).

The Britain in Bloom overall winner for 2024 was Bath in Bloom.

Entries for Britain in Bloom 2025 are currently being selected by Yorkshire in Bloom from a possible 14 groups across the whole of Yorkshire – 5 of which are in North Yorkshire – Filey in Bloom, Hunton in Bloom, Starbeck in Bloom, Harrogate in Bloom and Harrogate BID. Out of these only 3 will be put forward to represent Yorkshire in the national RHS Britain in Bloom finals in 2025.
