Yesterday a family popped in to our store to discuss funeral flowers for their loved one. They said the last time they used the funeral director, they went with the in-house florist and the finish was underwhelming. We talked it through, and it struck me that many families who are grieving may not think to look elsewhere for their loved one’s final goodbye. So we made this infographic to show where the value is lost and how to keep it in the flowers.

Let’s talk about funeral flowers.

When a loved one passes away, most people turn to a funeral director. And rightly so. At a time that’s overwhelming and emotional, having someone take care of the details brings comfort and clarity.

So when the funeral director says, “We’ll handle the flowers too,” most people agree without a second thought. It’s one less thing to think about. But very few people actually know how this part works.

In most cases, the flowers aren’t handled in-house. The funeral director passes the order to a local florist. There may be a short conversation about colours or general style, but personal touches are rarely the focus. Often, the family simply chooses a tribute from a catalogue or website with a mark up, without ever speaking to the florist who will be creating it.
