Ceremonies by Gitte

I realised I was Humanist a long time ago. I had been searching ever since I was a young teen and knew for sure that I was not religious. But, I wanted meaning. And purpose! After studying philosophy at college and religious studies at university, I became even more sure, but was, and am, fascinated by how our cultures have been influenced by religion. Most importantly, I found evidence that an ethical path in life does not need religion. I came across @humanists_uk later in life and have been a paid up member since. I wanted to support campaigns for human rights, animal welfare (and so much more) and generally for freedom of religion, belief, speech, thought, and expression. Humanists try to make ethical decisions on the basis of our human capacity to reason - as opposed to following religious rules). That means that we care deeply about people, animals and the planet. Becoming a Humanist celebrant - creating meaningful ways to celebrate people and their lives right here and now - gave me the chance to inject purpose in my work. Happy World Humanist Day!
