A huge win for nature - the application for the emergency use of banned bee-killing pesticide Cruiser SB has been rejected for use on British land by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)

A single teaspoon of neonicotinoid pesticides is enough to kill 1.25 billion bees, posing a fundamental threat to our natural world and the food we eat every day.

Under the banner Stand By Bees a group of businesses that source UK agricultural products within their supply chains spearheaded by Anabel Kindersley of Neal's Yard Remedies joined wildlife campaigners and scientists to petition the government to protect pollinators. This milestone moment shows how business can join with wildlife campaigners and scientists to be a force for nature.

Now the government must turn its attention to ensuring that farmers get the support they need to adopt the nature-friendly farming techniques that will help British farming to flourish long into the future.

The carefully woven branches of a newly laid Sheepdrove hedgerow emerging from yesterday morning's. Just think of a whole world of wildlife—birds, small mammals, insects—who will find shelter and comfort in this newly regenerated habitat as it grows, thickens and flourishes.

We were absolutely delighted that Tom Fortune of Fortune and Son found time in his busy schedule to squeeze in laying the mixed native hedgerow lining the drive down to the event venue, office space, guest accommodation and farm buildings.

Laying will regenerate the hedgerow by encouraging new thicker and denser growth from the base to create a linear thicket that can provide essential shelter and safe corridors for wildlife movement.

In the days before barbed wire, hedges had to be stock proof and thousands of farm hands would have spent months and months painstakingly managing hedges with slashers and axes to produce robust field boundaries.

2024, you’ve been a memorable year at Sheepdrove...


2024 saw the launch of collaborative project led by North Wessex Downs National Landscape and funded by Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) via The National Lottery Heritage Fund with two restorations and Plantlife: saving wild plants rare wild arable plant surveys and management advice.

New higher tier scheme works included creation, planting and courtesy of .


2024 also saw the installation of three to enable more Sheepdrove wild honey bees to build healthy colonies more resistant to disease

Woodend Lodge (sleeps 18) and The Silos (sleeps 4) were plugged into the ground source heat pump. The Boathouse is already heated by air source but 2024 saw air source installed at Nutwood Lodge (sleeps 10-12). An infinity solar roof that replaced a leaky asbestos roof is now generating electricity.

Sheepdrove deer stalker Charlie Hancock set up with support from and butchery and charcuterie training is now available to students from local catering colleges in the Butchery.


We welcomed another lovely local business to Sheepdrove - flower farmers and sustainable florists are growing some of their beautiful blooms in the walled garden.

🌱 Last week the SFT team gathered at Sheepdrove Organic Farm & Green Events Venue for our annual strategy days to discuss and explore key areas of our work, how they intersect with one another, and how we can scale the impact that this work is having; from our research and policy, to our various different projects and communications strategy.

⚡️ The team came away revitalised and with a renewed focus on how we can best work towards transforming our food and farming systems for climate, nature and health. With so much disharmony in the world right now, we realise that our work is more important than ever if we’re to create a better and more sustainable future for our planet.

🐑 We’re incredibly grateful to our brilliant hosts, Peter and Juliet Kindersley, and the rest of the team at Sheepdrove, for giving the team this opportunity to get together in person. Sheepdrove is an award-winning, family-run, mixed organic farm in the Oxfordshire countryside, and operates a certified net-zero carbon venue space. What a day! A few photos from the Game Changer Open Day at Sheepdrove Organic Farm on October 26th when Charlie, Kat and Rich welcomed over a hundred people to our venison butchery for a day of demonstrations and charcuterie tastings.

It is widely acknowledged that deer populations have increased to the point where they are having a devastating impact on the countryside. On our organic farm, wild venison is a by-product of protecting our woodlands, hedgerows and downland and woodland wild flowers. This wild venison is probably the most sustainable, low-impact, high-nutrient meat available in the UK and yet the demand for it is almost non existent. This must change and Charlie, Kat and Rich are solving this problem both bottom up and top down - from training catering college students in venison butchery and charcuterie to high end retail with Game Changer's fabulously flavoursome cured venison treats that add the wow factor any grazing platter.
