Brides & Florists, This One’s for You!

Myself and Flicky from collaborated early this year to bring you the Irish Wedding Florist Survey Results, aiming to set the record straight on wedding flower costs.

After hearing that the average flower spend in Ireland was reported at €921 (pause for gasp), we gathered insights from 54 wedding florists to get you a much more clearer picture of real budgets and services.

With Christmas just around the corner and it being the prime engagement season - I thought this may be a good time to bring this back to your attention.

If you’re planning your dream wedding or you’re a florist navigating the industry, our findings are essential. Check out the link in our bio for detailed survey results!

We want to know: Is this helpful for you? Let us know your thoughts in the comments, and feel free to share to spread awareness!

S & G’s outdoor wedding at Sheen Falls Hotel was a burst of colour and modern luxury. Under perfect May skies, the bride’s sleek, form-fitting dress and the bridesmaids’ chic black gowns set the stage for our vibrant florals in cerise, peach, and coral. The contrast was unforgettable, and the day radiated pure elegance and energy. May in Ireland never disappoints!

Thursday: Time for some more Floral education and Tips:

What flowers you may need to avoid in your Bridal bouquet:

When it comes to choosing flowers for your bridal bouquet or boutonniere, some blooms may not be the best choice for a long, busy wedding day. While all flowers look stunning when you first receive them, will they last throughout the day?

Hydrangeas (especially in early summer when their colours are vibrant and the blooms are young) need constant access to water. Without it, they’ll wilt quickly, making them a less reliable option for all-day use.

Dainty blooms with hollow stems, such as Queen Anne’s Lace, Astrantia, Ranunculi, and even anemones to a certain extent, need water to maintain their rigidity. These flowers can wilt easily, especially in warmer weather.

If you’re set on using wilt-prone flowers like these, it's a good idea to have water on hand to give your blooms a break during the ceremony or between photos to keep them looking fresh.

Other delicate florals, like spring blossoms, spirea, poppies, some dahlias, homegrown garden roses, and even black cosmos, are prone to shedding petals when handled or moved frequently. While daintiness can be part of your day’s charm, no one wants to go home with empty stems where flowers once were!

Finally, you’ll almost never see me add dyed florals to a bridal bouquet or boutonniere (unless by special request). These blooms can stain actually your dress. And if you love lilies, make sure they are depollinated to avoid those troublesome pollen stains.

So, what flowers are easier to pick for your floral attire?

Roses are sturdy, and if conditioned well, they hold up beautifully in a bouquet. The same goes for most dahlias and other drought-tolerant blooms. Autumn Hydrangeas are less dependent on water, making them a stunning choice for an autumn bouquet or boutonniere. Carnations and chrysanthemums are also fantastic choices, as they’re long-lasting, durable, and keep their shape and beauty even out of water for extended periods.

As an experienced wedding florist, I’ve had the opportunity to design floral arrangements in some of Ireland’s most iconic castles.

Luttrellstown Castle offers a blend of history and modern luxury, making it the perfect choice for sophisticated, minimalist styles. Dromoland Castle, with its royal heritage and lush gardens, is best suited to lush and timeless floral arrangements. Castle Leslie, with its picturesque lakeside views and rustic charm, pairs beautifully with loose, organic designs.

Romantic Florals for J & D’s Elegant Luttrellstown Castle Wedding.

J & D’s wedding at Luttrellstown Castle was a day full of timeless beauty and romance. J wanted a soft, elegant colour palette of lilacs, purples, and whites, which we reflected throughout all the floral designs. For her bridal bouquet, we created a vintage-inspired cascading arrangement, mainly in white, with a touch of purple. The bouquet featured lush garden roses, delicate delphiniums, green amaranth, and white clematis, giving it an ethereal yet classic feel.

The bridesmaids carried smaller, spray-style bouquets, full of delphiniums, larkspur, and butterfly bush, each tying into the romantic theme. Their florals were designed to complement J’s larger bouquet while maintaining a light, fresh look.

As a final thoughtful touch, the groomsmen all wore lilac and white pocket squares to coordinate with the floral arrangements. The groom stood out with a single white garden rose on his lapel, adding a refined and elegant detail to his black tuxedo.

Swipe through to see how these beautiful florals helped bring J & D’s vision to life.

It’s Thursday! Time for Something New: Our Thursday Tips – Wedding Flower Edition

From the very beginning, we’ve chosen to go foam-free in all our floral designs, staying true to our eco-friendly approach. While traditional floral foam is convenient, it’s a single-use plastic that releases harmful microplastics into the environment. Instead, we use compostable bricks, moss, reusable vessels, and chicken wire to craft our beautiful, sustainable arrangements.

We believe in creating floral designs that not only look stunning but also care for the planet. What are your thoughts on sustainable floristry? Let’s have a conversation in the comments! 🌿
