🎭 The Guildhall Theatre holds a legacy like no other — a true home of performance for over 600 years. From medieval minstrels and Elizabethan drama to Restoration comedies and Georgian productions, this stage has seen it all.

It’s one of the few theatres that can credibly claim to have hosted William Shakespeare, with his comedian Robert Armin born just a street away.

Though the curtain is down for now, the echoes of iconic performances still fill the space — a powerful reminder of its dramatic past.

Volunteering at the Guildhall isn't just about guided tours!
If you've been to any of our events, school visits or holiday activities you will probably have met Shannon. Shannon is one of our education volunteers. She enjoys helping out with craft activities, getting dressed up, performing on stage and supporting all the young people we welcome here at the Guildhall. Through her work at the Guildhall, she has also discovered a passion and talent for archery! Shannon is a huge asset to the team and volunteering has really helped her develop her confidence and life skills.

It's busy, busy, busy for our Tuesday volunteers. Linda and Mike (who managed to escape a photo!) have been in the Guildhall and our exhibition space next door at Shakespeare House this morning (have you been there to yet to see our theatre models and plans for redevelopment?) and now it's over to Jan and Richard. To celebrate, we will be posting photos of our wonderful volunteers showing off the Guildhall to our visitors, enjoying a cuppa and generally having a brilliant time. We couldn't open without our dedicated group of volunteers, and volunteering is so rewarding, bringing people from all walks of life together with a shared interest in history.
