DJ Methodz was set up to make DJ’ing available for all, but especially those who don’t normally get the chance.

The Turn The Tables project engages with underrepresented groups and individuals. It started with young women DJs but now includes people with additional needs.

The fourth workshop with Sight Support HEY took place at their Beverley Road building in Hull last week.

Celebrating 7 years operating as DJ Methodz, I’m sharing these pics representing 'A week in the life of DJ Methodz’ to give you a bit of an idea of what a DJ tutor’s week looks like:

Monday - 1:1 with a care leaver in on behalf of North Lincolnshire Council

Tuesday - for the Spectrum Youth Group at the Ping Pong Club in as part of the Turn The Tables project in conjunction with BROWSE HULL and

Wednesday - Full day of teaching at Springwell Alternative Learning Academy in SoundLincs role, and facilitation of Young Women’s DJ Group at in Hull

Thursday - Weekly session at The Warren Youth Project for young people aged 16-25

Friday - Meeting with Hayley McPhun, Arts & Heritage Co-ordinator for Horizon Youth Zone in Grimsby

Saturday - Enrichment for Pocklington School's international boarders, followed by mixed group sessions for young people aged 7-18 at in Hull

Weekend - What it’s all about! at Shinobi in Hull

Big Buzz at in is a mixed ability group for young people aged 16 to 24.

The 2nd year of TURN THE TABLES saw not only progress with DJ skills development but also some outstanding peer learning - a collaborative approach to learning where students teach each other.

A huge achievement and proud moment for DJ Methodz which could not have happened without the continuing support of Hull Youth Services.

DJ Methodz and Castaway share common ground. We believe in transforming lives through the arts. We believe in accessibility and opportunity. People with learning and/or physical disabilities, mental health conditions, and autism are often underestimated.

We prefer to raise expectations, set no limitations, and provide a platform to explore creativity. With this approach, we can learn so much from those we work with, and move towards a day when stigma, prejudice and discrimination become a thing of the past.

Recent additions to the DJ Methodz arsenal - a pair of Reloop RP7000 MKII and the Ltd Edition Allen & Heath Xone 92. The 7000s are bang for buck the best DJ turntable out there right now, and the Xone 92 might still be the best DJ mixer of all time!
