Aunty Indra was closed this weekend for a much needed rnr! So she and her MD whizzed off to the beautiful for a bit of island life! Needless to say, they had a blast!!! How do you like your crab and dumpling? As you can probably tell, this a fave of ours… it’s dish everytime!!!! If you have been exposed to this dish, you understand why your mouth suddenly springs water 💧 and the explosion 💥 of flavour once you start crunching on those crab 🦀 legs!!! An alternative Sunday lunch... no macaroni pie.. no callalloo.. no red beans.... instead we’ve done Chinese style chicken... egg fried rice.... black eye beans... creamy potato salad.... fresh salad.. end result? Yummy! 🤤

A twist on fish and chips... instead of cod, we opted for sea bass fillets and sweet potato fries and a rocket and avocado salad all drizzled with home made honey mustard dressing! It may be a healthier option to the traditional Friday meal, but it taste just as great!!!

If you grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, this dish may be nostalgic... it’s a rarity but oh so delicious!!!!

It is said that if you eat this fish you will always return to the beautiful shores of Trinidad.

The fish is called casscadura or cascadoo in Trinidad or Hassar in Brazil and Guyana. It’s a fresh water fish and a member of the cat fish family.... it’s exoskeleton is armoured so to get the meat, you need to peel back it’s hard bony plate-like scales to get the juicy flesh on the inside.

Often stewed in pigeon peas and curry powder and coconut milk; it can be eaten with dumplings or rice as well but ofcourse my favourite it to sop it up with some roti!

This dish, like many other crustaceans is not for the impatient... but will leave you satisfied. A must have next time you visit Trinidad & Tobago.

Still enjoying my pastelles a month later. Everything else finish so fast! That ponche a creme was too good (thankful I get 2 bottles or else I wasnt gonna share). Looking forward to more of this taste of home!
