We spend less today on music than they did twenty years ago.
It’s easy to pan the streaming companies for ripping off artists and I’m not saying they are blameless but check out this video which shows that spend on music has roughly halved. That’s not really a surprise given all the different subscriptions and entertainment options available
The golden age was 1999 with around $26 billion being spent compared with $15 billion now. Recorded music is cheaper and more accessible than it has ever been. If you love music that’s not exactly a bad thing. For $10 a month the world’s entire music collection can be at your fingertips. I would spend that each week on one album in 1999.
If you love an artist, try to find a way to support them - go to gigs (small local), buy merch, vinyl releases, etc. They are likely making very little, but their music brings so much to your life.

I'm super stoked to announce my new EP Dark Traffic out on Transfiguration Recordings! I’m a huge fan of this label and getting an EP signed to it was a major goal for me. I’m really proud of these tracks too and being part of a label featuring some of my favourite producers.
Expect hardgroove bass-line driven techno with plenty of percussion and some housier sounds and bags of energy. Dark Traffic is released on Good Friday 29th March but you can pre-order and pre-save it right now.
