From a new made friend establishing a personal connection to the company, to receiving a microphone and testing it during rehearsals to finally singing with it on stage – the journey with our mic has been sonic sparkle!

We'll be raising a glass to remember our friend tonight.

In loving memory of our friend Alan Rankine, who sadly left us one year ago.

Alan was the creative genius behind The Associates, before forging a solo career and inspiring the next generation of bands at Stow College in Glasgow. Our name is a tribute to his biggest hit from 1982 (and used with kind permission).

We miss you and will be raising a glass tonight.

A look back to before the pandemic and what The Electricity Club had to say about Silicon Dreams Festival 2019.

Liverpool’s Electronic Music Event Returns… The Silicon Dreams festival has been a semi-regular event on the synth-pop-lovers calendar for almost two decades now. Originally a small retro-computing/synth-pop crossover celebration, it’s grown over the years, shedding the 8-bit to concentrate on...

Important notice for those planning on coming to MiG 15 plus Weimar and The Last of the Fallen Angels. We will announce a replacement act soon.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT RE: LIVE SHOWS

It is with great regret that we must announce that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Weimar have made the decision not to perform any live events for the foreseeable future and to cancel both of the live appearances we have scheduled for the remainder of 2021.

In these uncertain times, when the Delta variant remains a significant risk, virologists warn of potential further complications ahead, and certain of our close friends and families have suffered due to the virus, we feel it is safer for us to abstain from live performance until things reach a more acceptable level of normality.

This means that our appearances at the following live dates will unfortunately be cancelled:

Sat 11th September - Night People, Manchester
Sat 27th November - The Factory, Manchester

The shows will still be going ahead with the other acts on the bill, and replacements for us are being sorted. We will not be arranging any new live performances for the foreseeable future while the pandemic remains a risk.

This is not a decision we have taken lightly, as we would have loved to make a return to live performance and connecting with our audiences in the live environment. We have talked about the matter among ourselves in great depth and considered the current data and scientific advice, and with difficulty have reached the conclusion that this is our best option given the unpredictable circumstances in which we find ourselves.

We remain busy in the studio and have been making the finishing touches to the mastering of our album, as well as laying down new material, and we hope to make an announcement in the next few months regarding our album's release.

We remain grateful for your continued support and we are hopeful that the pandemic situation will not drag on for too much longer, enabling us to see you all again at a live show in the not too distant future.

Until then, stay safe, take good care and we hope to see you all again soon ❤ xx

Regrettably we had no choice but to take this decision. The decision of the local authorities to lift restrictions the day after our event was a step too far, and a compromise we were unwilling to accept.

The safety of women travelling alone at night is a topical subject at the moment. We regularly have solo attendees at our events, so we would like to offer some reassurance to anyone who is worried about getting home afterwards.

We won't leave you on your own after one of our gigs. If you are waiting for a taxi or lift, you're welcome to wait inside the venue with our team until it arrives. If you need help finding a taxi then we're happy to assist. Just ask at the front desk.

Stay safe - and from all of us, Happy Easter and we hope to see you soon.

Springkell Live - Weekend retreat festival featuring some of the best independent music in the estate of a Palladian Scottish mansion.

31/01/2021

We were approached by the press last week, to give our response to the Scottish First Minister's statement doubting that live music events can go ahead in 2021. As Springkell Live 2021 is affected by her decisions here is a copy of our response :

"Larger scale events are planned many months in advance, so a lot of the preparations will have been made already. Unfortunately for festival organisers that also means that contracts will have been signed and money will have changed hands, so as far as the events are concerned those commitments have been made. Unravelling or cancelling something which involves many different stakeholders - from musicians to sound and lighting, catering and security - is an expensive nightmare, which is why most 2020 events took the more stable and cost-effective option of simply carrying over a year.

What Nicola Sturgeon's statement does is harm confidence. The public don't feel confident that events will be able to happen in summer which all but kills remaining ticket sales. There is an added risk of those who have already bought tickets asking for refunds. All of this undermines the stability of a high-cost, high-risk industry. Even when normality returns, many organisers will decide against taking the risk ever again. Springkell Live is privately financed and this is a situation of unprecedented risk.

Springkell Live 2021 is already prepared, pretty much. There are still details to sort out but our main issue at the moment is weathering that storm of doubt that speculation over what can and cannot happen this summer. At the moment we are still planning to go ahead, even if it means implementing additional safety and compliance measures which we are already preparing for. Ultimately we have a duty of responsibility to our ticket holders, artists and Springkell itself, as well as the various small businesses who are a part of this event - most of whom are local to the area. We want to keep people safe but we don't want to put people out of work unless we have no viable alternatives.

Another summer of lost festivals will be devastating for the live music industry - particularly musicians who haven't worked for almost a year already. For Dumfries and Galloway it will serve a serious blow to all of the small businesses who will benefit from Springkell Live and other events which are scheduled to happen. It's not just the venues or the caterers. It's the guest houses, hotels, pubs, restaurants and all the other places where people spend their money - particularly those who are travelling into the area. We understand that keeping people safe is of paramount importance, but the economic impact will have a deep and long-lasting effect."

We hope that this statement shows a pragmatic yet realistic point of view which everyone can consider. That way we'll have the best chance of making at least some live events happen in 2021.

Simon.
