❓But why is it important for workplaces to have performance goals for diversity and inclusion?
❗For recruitment, a lack of diversity is a deal-breaker.
Establishing goals for diversity and inclusion within your organisation is crucial because they are key to hiring new employees. Millennials and Generation Z are less likely to accept a job if the organisation does not have diverse leadership positions and are unlikely to work for organisations whose cultures don't align with their own.
❗ It's sad that many employees don't feel free to be authentic at work. It is critical that workers are at ease at work. Goals for diversity and inclusion make it easier for members of minority groups to feel accepted and recognised in the workplace.
This is something that many businesses miss out on, as evidenced by a recent Accenture poll. In the survey, only 40% of LGBTQ+ employees said they felt safe disclosing their gender identity and sexual orientation at work.
❗Multiple studies demonstrate that diverse companies function better. Supporting diversity and inclusion has a favourable effect on job satisfaction and loyalty. It also affects how well the entire organisation performs. Diverse businesses have a higher chance of increasing their market share and are more likely to have above-average profitability. This is because they have different perspectives and sources of knowledge. More voices and points of view are heard in these companies.

A few weeks ago, Karen Hill and Sam Cande had the pleasure of meeting Ananth Murthy and his wife. Karen and Sam were immediately captivated by their tale of how they founded The TimberMaker and their dedication to making it a sustainable and socially responsible company. Karen and Sam also love the furniture they are creating.
Many people reevaluated their priorities during lock-down; we examined the decisions we are making regarding our personal and professional life as well as the goods we buy. Many of us no longer feel the need for mass consumerism; instead, we are searching for better-quality products that are long-lasting, made from sustainable resources, and produced by workers who are appreciated and well-treated. We want to support ethical businesses.
The story of The Timber Maker is one that many businesses old and new can learn from. Care about how you make your products, the sustainability of your supply chain and how you treat your workforce.

Companies select the charities they support in different ways.
Often because it's maybe something they've seen on the television or after a ballot from their employees. None of these ways is wrong, but businesses and charities can both gain a lot more when businesses support charities that align with their purpose.
In our next FREE Webinar The S in ESG - Why social value matters we look at how your business can be more socially responsible looking at topics such as charities, your workforce and your wider community. Join us by registering here : https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/315216490007

People often ask me which podcasts I listen to.
I have a few favourites, but I must admit the one that Responsible Futures creates called Sustain Talks is probably my favourite. Sam Cande manages to get a huge variety of speakers all from the #sustainability or #socialresponsibility world, but all with different views, experiences and advice, I learn something new from every podcast.
I would definitely recommend subscribing https://lnkd.in/gCHqHiag
And for a taste here's a snippet from Dominic Offer !
What's your favourite podcast? And why?

One of the ways your company can become more socially responsible is to support a charity. Selecting one that represents your company values and is local to your premises better resonates with employees. By volunteering your employees will have a greater sense of belonging, make new friends, and connect with local communities. Face-to-face activities such as volunteering at a food bank and supporting the elderly can also help reduce loneliness and isolation.

In this week’s sustain talks, Sam had a wonderful chat with Bhavna Raithatha about mental health in the workplace. They spoke about the attrition rates and how employers can do more. Bhavna is a psychotherapist, coach and clinical supervisor in mental health and well-being support. With her experience, Bhavna educates us on how people can be easily influenced mentally at work.
Workplace mental health concerns must be analysed in order to determine the amount of risk to employees, once a risk has been identified, efforts must be made to eliminate or limit it as much as possible because whether work is causing or exacerbating a health problem, businesses have a legal obligation to assist their employees.
Bhavna also talks passionately and in line with Pride month, about her concerns on the Conversion therapy ban by the UK government and how important it is for governments to be among citizens with real-life experience, so that a clear grasp of what is going on around us may be achieved.
