Deities of Death - Guede Nibo:

There are the living and the dead and are those who exist in between. Guede Nibo is a member of the Guede family of loas (spirits who are revered in the tradition of Haitian Vodou) associated with death & fertility. Considered by some to be the first person to have died a violent death, he looks after the spirits of those who have suffered off this mortal coil due to unnatural causes. When he posses a devotee, the mortal is sometimes able to channel dead spirits whose bodies have not been found.

The Poltergeist of Schloss Tegel:

Pros: elegant white-towered mansion in the picturesque Tegel Forest setting near the conveniences of Berlin. Cons: pyrotechnic poltergeists. The Schloss Tegel is a onetime country house and hunting lodge dating from the mid 16th century that in 1820 was rebuilt in the classical style popular at the time. Construction on the building apparently woke up an angry poltergeist. Overnight, conditions in the grand house became dangerous. The poltergeist, taking the shape of a dark, shadowy figure, threw burning coals at the inhabitants and lit fires randomly throughout the castle. The cracking of a whip was heard up & down the corridors. Locals tried everything they could think of to exorcise the ghost, but nothing seemed to work. But then one day, as suddenly as it appeared, the poltergeist ceased its torment. Did it grow bored of haunting Schloss Tegel? Or did it just settle back to sleep again until the next time it is disturbed? Further renovations are not advised.

Akershus Fortress:

This 14th century castle, today housing several museums and a Norwegian Army training base, has a long history to it: It once held Norway’s most dangerous criminals and later was occupied by the Nazi’s. Today, it is said to house many terrifying ghosts. One is a mysterious, faceless woman called Mantelgeisten (‘the cloaked one’) who wears a long robe & appears & disappears in the darkness.
Another famous resident is Malcanisen, or ‘the vicious dog’, who guards the front gate. Legend says that a gatekeeper of the castle buried a guard dog alive at the entrance, knowing it would come back as an angry spirit. If you see the demon dog, they say you will die a violent death within 3 months.
Contemporary visitors may hear screams of the tortured ghosts who are trapped in the castle, or hear chains rattling in corridors, or even feel warm breath on their neck.

The Ghost of Frida Kahlo:

It is possible that Mexican City’s Azul museum, the former residence of the artist Frida Kahlo, might contain more than that just her paintings & belongings. Visitors & museum staff have reported seeing her roaming the house, sometimes even trying on her old clothes. Wet footprints have been spotted on the grounds with no culprit in sight.
The artist died in 1954 at the age of 47, officially due to a pulmonary embolism, however, many suspect that Kahlo, who endured years of incapacitating infirmities, may have died by su***de by overdose. In a journal entry days before her death, Kahlo wrote ‘They amputated my leg six months ago, they have given me centuries of torture & at moments I almost lost my reason. I keep on waiting to kill myself. I hope the exit is joyful & I hope never to come back’. Despite this, one person who has felt her presence says that her ghost is far from being angry and is benign, even playful. 👻

Ghost tale no3, The Pope & the gold thief ghost:

Born in 1591, Donna Olimpia Maidalchini Pamphilj was an ambitious, wealthy, and brilliant woman once rumoured to be the power behind the throne. She used connections and bribery to have her brother-in-law, an ambitious monsignor, named Pope Innocent X in 1644. Her machinations were so obvious that after the conclave, one of the cardinals declared, ‘Gentlemen, we have just elected a female Pope’. They were almost right, as the Pope did not make a move without consulting his sister-in-law, who scandalised the Church with her overt politicking, feminist attitudes, and brazen theft of Vatican gold. When the Pope died in 1655, the ‘Papessa’ fled Rome in a black carriage. She died of the Plague 2 years later. Today, Romans say you can see her ghost crossing the Sisto Bridge in a black carriage every January 7th, the anniversary of Pope Innocent X’s death. Some say she was damned for refusing to pay for his funeral.

Whose ready for another ghost story!?? I know I am 👻👻

The Lady in White:

Some first dates lead to true love. This one ends at the grave. Different versions of this story have been told by locals in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for decades, though many details remain the same. Luz Maria, age 15, died of leukaemia in 1925. She was buried in the Recoleta cemetery. The story goes that one evening a young man met a beautiful girl in a white dress outside the cemetery and invited her for coffee. During their date, the girl became very cold, so he put his jacket around her. At one point, she spilled coffee on his jacket. Here the stories diverge. In some tellings, she flees from the coffee shop, and he follows her to the cemetery and sees her disappear among the tombs. In other accounts, they part ways amicably, hoping to see each other again. In that version, when he visits her home the next day to retrieve his jacket, her mother tells him that her daughter has been dead for a long time. In every version of the story, the young man finds his stained jacket draped over the tomb of Luz Maria.

A friend of mine bought me a little book of ghost stories for Christmas, I thought it would be fun to share them here! No 1;

Manila Film Centre, Manila, Philippines:

When the lights went down at the 1982 Manila International Film Festival, the attendees did not know who might have been lurking in the dark with them. That’s because the new Manila Film Centre had been recklessly constructed. This resulted in tragedy. On November 17th, 1981, scaffolding on an upper floor of the building collapsed. Some workers were impaled on steel bars, and more than a hundred fell into the quick drying cement below. Accounts differ about what happened next, because the government ordered a media blackout. What is clear is that construction resumed almost immediately. Half buried men who could not be rescued were cut into pieces and removed from the dry cement, which was covered over by a new layer. The festival went on as planned, with guests unaware of the corpses just below their feet. Locals believe that the centre is cursed, haunted by the men who were buried alive. Many rituals have been performed at the site to cleanse it of hauntings, but the spirits are stubborn.
