NEW ARTICLE by HR magazine. Alex Hind recounts his experience with a brain tumor diagnosis and the unexpected mental health challenges that followed. Hind argues that businesses must create supportive environments where employees feel comfortable discussing their struggles. NEW ARTICLE: Fran Hill, South Coast Fatigue discusses how early access to occupational therapy can lead to simple, cost-effective solutions that improve productivity. Occupational therapists help implement workplace adjustments, assist line managers in managing health-related issues, and ensure tailored return-to-work plans, promoting long-term employee well-being and business success. Effective teamwork across these areas creates a supportive, inclusive workplace.

Today is and we've got a great article by Clare Knox, Organisational Psychologist and Founder of See Her Thrive. The article emphasises that while achieving a "Menopause Certification" for workplace support is commendable, it's only one part of addressing women's health. Many women face other conditions such as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), endometriosis, and Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS), which affect 75% of the female workforce. These conditions are often overlooked, despite costing the UK economy billions due to absenteeism.

Sharron Moffatt critiques the superficial promotion of breast cancer awareness, often referred to as "pinkwashing," where companies show support through pink-themed products and gestures without taking meaningful action. It highlights the need for organisations to move beyond symbolism by offering comprehensive cancer awareness training, encouraging early detection, supporting transparent charities, and raising awareness through education rather than merchandise. With growing numbers of workers experiencing mental health challenges, employers must create supportive environments that promote well-being. Francoise Woolley, Acas presents three key cases for prioritising mental health: business, legal, and human. Not only does supporting mental health lead to increased productivity and reduced absenteeism, but it is also a legal requirement under UK law. NEW ARTICLE by Hempsons Law: The new Labour government plans to introduce significant reforms to employment law in the UK. Among the key changes is an Employment Rights Bill and an Equality (Race and Disability) Bill. Proposals include simplifying employment status by removing the distinction between "employee" and "worker", banning exploitative zero-hour contracts, and granting new day-one rights, such as the right to claim unfair dismissal. It's ***depreventionday and we're spreading word about R;pple, a digital crisis intervention tool that has absolutely blown us away!

R;pple Su***de Prevention was founded by Alice Hendy after she lost her brother Josh in November 2020 to su***de at 21 years old. Josh had been researching over the internet techniques to take his own life – and he was not alone. Globally, an alarming 1.2 million online searches linked to su***de occur each month.

To ensure more help and support is given to individuals searching for harmful content online, Alice set up R;pple, a digital crisis intervention tool designed to present a visual prompt when a person searches for keywords or phrases relating to the topic of self-harm or su***de. These phrases include any words or terminology which have been identified as displaying potentially damaging online content.

R;pple provides support in 3 simple steps:

1. Intercepts the search with a calmly presented pop-up screen;
2. Guides the person through a filter of breathing exercises statistically proven to help them pause and reflect;
3. Signposts to helplines and mental health resources, accompanied with messages of hope.

With millions of downloads worldwide, R;pple intercepts thousands of harmful online searches, continually saving lives from su***de. Learn more by checking out their website here https://ow.ly/CW5e50TjYoh

NEW ARTICLE by Hempsons: New legislation, set to come into effect in October 2024, will require employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment, with enhanced powers for the Equality and Human Rights Commission to enforce this duty. Sexual harassment remains a significant issue in UK workplaces, as highlighted by a 2023 Trade Union Congress poll, which found that 58% of women have experienced sexual harassment, bullying, or verbal abuse at work.
