The interviewers. By my father
Gouache on paper from some point in the 70s.
Nervous about a job interview, he painted how he imagined the new bosses to be.
Public school boys sat on each others laps and a guy so fat he was dripping on to the table.

This was one of the most important and inspiring paintings in my life.
I still have a fixation on painting men in suits.
The blank dead bureaucrats that Francis Bacon specialised in during his early work.

Having this up in the house growing up meant that people could actually do this. It was real. Potentially a career.

A house without art is not a home.
So. But more paintings. Good ones. Ones you can live inside of. Get them.
Especially mine hahaha

Experimental block print 2.

5 colour experimental print using reduction technique. One block for all layers, eroding the image so only a set number of prints can be made.
I like the way this keeps things in point.

Gonna try some more.
They'll be collected into either more mystery tubes or print packs. So look out for the drops when they come. X

Niall is an ex school teacher who let me use his Southampton terrace as a studio to create my early model animations about 20 years ago.
I ended up living there. We played in weird Avant- blues bands and free jazz ensembles together. He's a very active 72 now and I try keep in touch, sending him books every month and keeping him up to date with news.
He thought me so much about music, performance and life.
Anyway I went down and did him a little mural for his newly decorated kitchen.

It was always strange.
Nialls life kind of fixed in place after his divorce in the 90s. He sought stasis. I remember watching him take the new tubes of Weetabix out of the packet and putting them into the ancient box on the shelf. So nothing changed.
I tried to get him out of his comfort zone but it was never easy.
So this year when I saw he had began totally revamping the house, I got down there as soon as I could. CHANGE ! Amazing.

Anyway. I did him a mural and a couple of pictures.
And will try get down again and help out.
Older friends are great.

Late night colour studies, when with rage I swiped off the glow revealing the board behind. Something strange there. The chance move, random and violent, a heavy gamble but worth it. Bacon was a master at this but then he did destroy almost everything he did.

Win some, loose the rest.
It's a fair traid off for a something new.

Crazy exciting. The gardien company came and cleared out the trash filled garage at the back of our place. It's got lights and heating and a door and only two holes in the roof and is where I can properly paint and we Shall begin fabrication. Time to make those massive masks I've been threatening to make. Boom!!
