Happy National Peony Day! We’ve loved seeing your beautiful peony deliveries over the past few weeks, and uniting over our passion for this stunning flower. If you haven’t already, treat yourself to a bouquet of peonies and enjoy their transformation from tight bud to giant, fluffy flowers that you can barely fit in the palm of your hand. And don’t forget to tag us in your pictures - we don’t think we’ll ever get tired of seeing them.

We know how much joy a beautiful bouquet of peonies brings, so here's our top tips to keep them fresher for longer...
1. Cut the stems - trim your stems 3-5cm at a 45-degree angle. This removes dry ends and makes it easier for your peonies to absorb water.
2. Remove excess foliage - remove any foliage that will sit below the waterline of your vase. Removing these leaves helps reduce bacteria build up.
3. Use a clean vase - make sure your vase is sparkling clean before filling it with lukewarm water. Ensuring your vase is free from dirt or dust means only fresh water will be absorbed by them.
4. Cover them for a little while - Cover your peonies in the cellophane/paper they arrived in. This allows naturally emitted ethylene gas to stimulate the flowers and encourage them to open.
5. Give them a massage - Stimulate the petals by giving the flowers a gentle massage at the base.
6. While peonies enjoy a naturally sunny environment, it’s important to keep them out of direct sunlight so they don’t wilt. Display away from draughts and fruit – fresh fruit emits a chemical that can cause your peonies to age quicker.

Flowers are a simple pleasure. And one that can often be overlooked during the hustle and bustle of everyday life. But having flowers in the home can benefit us more than we may realise. The simple act of giving and receiving flowers creates meaningful connections, and as we all know, the presence of flowers in the home improves mood and is a beautiful way to create a calming and peaceful environment.

And just like that, a new year begins. Leaving behind the sparkle of Christmas and New Year celebrations, and diving us headfirst into the bleak and gloomy days of January. But as we pack up our ornaments and fairy lights, another kind of magic awaits. The magic of nature. Despite the dark mornings and rain beating on our window, vibrant petals bring us colour and joy, reminding us that Spring is on the way.

Tis truly the season with next week’s subscription. Velvety red and cherry brandy roses, combined with kiefer pine and nobilis fir bring a cosiness and joy that is unmistakably festive. Hypericum berries and spruce cones are nature’s baubles.

Can you hear the twinkle of the sugar plum fairies? Next week’s subscription brings them to floral form with velvety red roses and violet and soft pink lisianthus. The greenbell shimmers like generously sprinkled glitter.

Fresher, Fairer Flowers

Over the last 14 years, we’ve delivered more than 10 million beautiful flower bouquets throughout the length and breadth of the UK. 10 million bouquets is a lot, but we don’t like to think of it like that.

Every order we receive is arranged and hand-tied by one of our florists to create a unique bouquet. Just as each customer is different, so is each bouquet. We treat each one individually.

We strive to make our international and domestic supply chain kinder to people and the environment in everything we do. From working directly with Fair Trade farms, minimising the environmental impact of our packaging and even how our facilities are powered, we do this so we can deliver the freshest, fairest bouquet of flowers you’ve ever given. We’re ranked as the UK’s most ethical florist, with a perfect 100 score in 2019 on the Ethical Company Index. And, for every bouquet you buy, we plant one tree in countries like Haiti, Mozambique and Madagascar, to restore and grow healthy forests and help alleviate extreme poverty.

But the benefit of this work isn’t just a warm, fuzzy feeling: it means we’re able to deliver a better, fresher and longer lasting product. With an obsessive attention to detail, every single stem is seasonally sourced, prepared and stored to ensure maximum freshness, then personally arranged by a real florist. Rest assured, all of our bouquets are made to last.
