A new dried flower wreath, with pastel strawflowers, fluffy ammi & lots of grasses 🌾

It’s not too big (about 12 inches not including the wilder bits) so would fit perfectly on an internal door or a bit of wall space that needs some spring colour.

Available soon on my website but please do get in touch before that if you’re interested in giving this wreath a new home 💛

A few dried flower hair pins made yesterday when I was struggling to get my creative mojo going on a larger project. Starting small helped - after a few pins were finished I was feeling much more positive about the bigger stuff 🌞

There’s still time to book a place on the flower crown making workshop next weekend (March 22nd) in Llandogo 🌸 There are two sessions - one starting at 1:15 and the second at 3:15 - and each runs for 1.5 hours so there’s plenty of time for making yourself a beautiful dried flower crown.

I’ll show you how to create a crown of flowers attached to a wire base and from there you can create a bold and colorful headdress or something more delicate. There’ll be a paper-based version available too which is a great alternative if you’re bringing along a crafty kiddo.

All tools and supplies are provided but you’re welcome to bring any tools or flowers of your own that you’d like to use.

The workshops are part of the March Flare organized by Wye Valley River Festival as a joyful welcome to the spring season 🌱

Something a bit different ✨

I first made the blue hoop - last photo - as an entry for a Neptune’s Realm category in a local flower show. It was a fun way to work with dried flowers and it’s been an interesting addition to our hallway knickknack shelf ever since.

I recently made this pink one and even though the ocean wasn’t in my mind as a theme, it still makes me think of a little underwater scene full of anemones and unusual marine plants 🪸

It’s for sale now on my website, for someone who’d like a pink-themed flowerscape for their shelf too 💕

This was a special request for a bouquet including blue cornflowers for a bride to carry in memory of her mum 💙

Cornflowers are a symbol of hope used by the support charities for Motor Neurone Disease … the cornflower appearing fragile but being more hardy than it looks, much like the people who cope with the disease.

I hope it was a beautiful wedding day and that these blue flowers helped the bride feel close to her mum on her special day 🩵

Join us at The March Flare in Llandogo to celebrate the awakening buds of Spring on the 21st and 22nd of March!

On Friday we welcome you to a gentle evening of song, words and sounds to celebrate the turning of the year through immersive music inspired by the Spring Equinox at St Oudoceus Church, Llandogo.

On Saturday, we will walk together through Llandogo under the moon, fire torches in hand – waking up the world and soaking up the change of the season. We will head to the Village Hall to share a feast of food, music and merriment – with space for you to sing songs and tell stories in the evening. Please bring a dish to contribute and share in the feast!

The day will be full of workshops, gently waking up the earth, trees and ourselves with spring songs, shared stories and weaved headdresses before the fire procession through the village and fields. Bring brooms, pots and pans, shakers and instruments to blast away the cobwebs and give Spring the welcome it deserves 🌱🌷

It started with the intention of making a bouquet in the greens & yellows of canary grass & yarrow until I added some statice on the edge of magenta. Then dahlias in the same colour went in. And pink pokers statice. It ended up being my favourite 💛 But I’m still offering it in my shop for someone else who also loves yellow and pink 💕☺️

It’s rather tall and not practical for shipping so this one’s only available for local collection or delivery. Find out more here…

Beautiful, seasonal flowers grown in Gloucestershire

One of the things I love most about flowers is how they often bring excitement and expectation along with the changing of the seasons. I’m certain this feeling is a result of having spent the first twenty-odd years of my life in a part of America where the seasons differed dramatically from one to the next. My harbingers of spring were always the crocuses, peeking through the snow and reassuring me that winter would soon be over. I can also remember exploring the woods in springtime for the native Mayapple plant which meant the school holidays were right around the corner. And then there was summer, which was baking hot and humid to boot, yet it was plentiful and delicious, giving us sugary sweet corn, juicy blackberries, colourful zinnias and sunflowers, and fields of nodding Queen-Ann’s-Lace.

Flowers that grow with the seasons are flowers that are kinder to the environment, and looking after nature is as important to me as growing gorgeous flowers. I started Harebell & Bee because I wanted to bring a little floral beauty into the lives of others through sustainably-grown flowers. Even though my gardens might not produce flowers all year long, the flowers that do bloom there are all the more special for the few weeks or months that we get to enjoy them.

I’m Shanna, the flower grower, floral designer, wildlife cheerleader and business owner at Harebell & Bee. I grow a variety of flowers to harvest from April through October in my own garden near the centre of Lydney in Gloucestershire, by the beautiful Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. I love straight-from-the-garden bouquets and enjoy creating natural-looking arrangements using both fresh and dried flowers, as well as experimenting with foraged natural materials I find in the wilder areas of my garden.
