I’m thrilled to share the exciting news that following the success of our design of the RHS letters at last year’s RHS Malvern Show, Flowers From The Farm, West Midlands group, have been invited to create the central floral installation in the Floral Marquee for this years show (8th - 11th May 2025).

The theme is about the future of floristry shaped by climate awareness and sustainability.

Our design will include planted areas, plinth displays, seasonal farewell flowers, a huge hanging hoop dressed with dried flowers and twisted branches, living pillars and lots more. You will be able to immerse yourself within our installation and there will be lots of opportunity for selfies!

The design team are Jemima Willis, Kate Hurst and myself but we are looking for lots more volunteers from “Flowers from the Farm, West Midlands group” to help before and during the show ! Do get in touch if you are interested and available!

And if you are planning to visit the show in May please come and find us. Hopefully you can’t miss us!

We will also have a few slots on the Potting Shed stage to demo our sustainable floristry methods and techniques as well as lots of chat about growing British flowers. We’ll let you know more about this nearer the event.

In the meantime, construction began last weekend.. see previous reel!

Watch this space!

So now that Spring is hopefully on its way and we now have more than 10 hours of daylight, how about joining fellow florist/grower Jemima Willis from Little Flower Farm, Malvern Hills and myself for a day learning all about flowers and how to create your own cutting garden. It is the perfect time to start planning and you will have beds overflowing with beautiful flowers in only a few months time.

We will cover the following:
1. Preparing Your Plot
2. Month-by-Month Planting and which flowers to grow
3. Understanding Plant Types and when to plant
4. Pest Management
5. Trusted recommendations
6. Starting up your own business

For more detailed information, click on the link in my bio and book quickly as there are only limited places.

The day includes all refreshments, home made cake and a delicious lunch in Kat's cosy kitchen.

Can't wait to see you there.

Did you know ...?

- Imported supermarket flowers have been grown thousands of miles away in Columbia, Kenya, Ecuador or Ethiopia
- they are often harvested over a week before we see them in the shops
- Their carbon footprint is huge as they are transported by air or by sea in huge refridgerated units
- Many flowers are sprayed with chemicals after harvesting to keep them fresher and you are bringing these into your homes
- So many imported flowers arrived wrapped in plastic sleeves only destined for landfill
- Do you know what the working conditions are like for those workers growing these flowers? Have you ever wondered how they are grown so cheaply?

I grow all my flowers from our flower farm near Malvern and the months when I don't have any flowers I'll buy from other British growers in Lincolnshire or in the Scilly Isles. BUY BRITISH!

Valentines Day is now less than 10 days away.. think carefully before you buy those red roses or other imported flowers from the supermarket.

Instead, go to my website (link in bio) where I still have a few luxury spring hand tied bouquets available to order with gorgeous tulips, narcissi, anemones and other foliage all freshly picked and chemical free from my garden or sourced locally. For collection or I can deliver locally.

So I thought it was about time I reintroduced myself to lots of you! This is me and Bobby, who is also my “poster dog” and on my logo.

Here are some facts about me and my business.

- I’m married to Julian and have 2 gorgeous children, Claudia 18 and Hugh 16
- we have lived at Sherridge from 2013 when we moved from London. The house has been in Julian’s family for over 300 years and is proving a wonderful backdrop for all my flowers!!
- I used to be an Accountant and then a milliner in a former career!
- I started “Kats Cut Flowers” in 2021 when I turned 50
- I had an allotment when I worked in london and always loved growing my own veg and flowers
- when we moved here the first thing we did was put in a greenhouse and then I discovered Sarah Ravens colourful seed catalogues and I couldn’t resist sowing everything
- in Covid, I had too many flowers and a friend approached me to use some of them for a memorial service and the idea of my own cut flower business was sown!
- what have I learnt? Follow your dreams and that it is never too late for a change of career! Go for it.

Thursday 10th October 2024, 9-11 am - Foraging and create a seasonal arrangement to take home

Bring your wellies, some secateurs and we will walk around the garden and locally on the farm tracks to forage for autumn foliage, berries, seed heads, pheasant feathers and anything else you can find before returning to the comfort of my kitchen to arrange them into a huge bouquet or arrangement to take home with you. Bring several indoor containers of your own and I'll provide a selection of hyacinth, narcissi and other spring bulbs for you to plant up. Additional bulbs available to buy if you want. I'll also show you how to plant up a hugh outdoor container as a "Bulb lasagne" which will then explode in Spring giving you weeks of flowers to behold and enjoy.
