Big news from our little kitchen!

Our first official ‘employee’ has arrived—though he’s more interested in milk than meals right now! Baby Theo has joined the team, and while he specialises in midnight snack demands, we’re looking for actual staff to help us serve up amazing Sri Lankan street food. If you (or someone you know) are passionate about food and would like to join the team, get in touch!

🕯️Happy Sinhala and Tamil New Year 🕯️

Sinhala/Tamil New Year, or Aluth Avurudda, is a vibrant celebration in Sri Lanka, marking the beginning of the traditional calendar year. It’s a time when families gather to engage in a variety of cultural rituals and festivities.

There is a strong emphasis on auspicious times known as “Nekath” for starting various activities (this year, the times are 2.41pm(13th April) - 03.26. am (14th)), and some activities include:

From 2.41pm the hob is not to be turned on and food is not to be consumed until 11.06pm. Between these times activities are to be kept to the bare minimum except visiting the temple.

At 11.06pm you turn the hob on and boil milk until it overflows on all sides symbolising prosperity.

00.06am Kiri bath (milk rice) is enjoyed with families with the exchanging of gifts.

And that’s a wrap, we have completed our 6 month residency

What a cracking 6 months it’s been….we’d like to say a big thank you to The Old Fire Station for hosting us and allowing us to share our Sri Lankan family recipes to lots of new customers, many of whom turned into our new regulars.

And a bigger thank you to all the staff, we’ll miss you all, alongside our daily coffees, sour beers, sourdough and all the other delicious baked goods👌🏽🤍

But don’t worry Salford, we’re not moving too far…we’ll be releasing our new home soon with the venue and date so keep your eyes peeled 👀 and to our customers who already know…keep your mouths sealed🤐
