We have fitted some new signage to several litter bins to remind that these bins are not to be used for dog waste.

These bins are just for general litter and we request that dog waste is only put into the specific dog waste bins.

OCTOBER 2024 NEWSLETTER
NEWSLETTER

Currently, lovely Cheswardine is looking so beautiful; we've had some fantastic autumn sunsets, trees and hedges are glowing red and golden, and migrating geese fly noisily overhead. We've even been treated to a view of the shimmering Northern Lights too. How lucky are we?!

There's lots been happening behind the scenes too, where volunteer trustees have been making sure we will all be having fun in the dark winter months ahead..

Sunday 1st December 12.30 until 4pm
Cheswardine's spectacular Christmas event will include a visit from Father Christmas! There will be a grotto, a range of festive stalls, plus hot and cold refreshments to help us celebrate too. One of the top raffle prizes available will be afternoon tea at glorious Goldstone Hall for two!

Friday 6th December at 6.30pm until 8pm
Children's Christmas bingo. Tickets £2.

Friday 17th January 2025
Dave Clarke's fabulous Quiz Night with food and bar.

Sunday 27th April 2024
'Drive it' day! A classic car show in aid of Children in Need.

Thursday 8th May 2025:
VE Day Celebrations will include lighting the

beacon and a church service.

Ask Jane and Julie!
Did King Harold really end his days at here Cheswardine Castle and not die at the Battle of Hastings? Did Lady Godiva live here in Cheswardine?
We're very lucky to have lovely local historians Jane and Julie, who very kindly are happy to share their knowledge at Barley's Coffee Shop once a month:

Monday 4th November
War and Rememberance.
Monday 2nd December
Cheswardine's beacon: 25 years of service
Monday 16th December
Cheswardine's History Committee meeting (with gingerbread too!)

Lastly, (but certainly not least!) is Bacon buttie morning on the 11th November. It's

always busy and run by a great team of friendly volunteers so come along!
Barley's monthly raffle is drawn on this day too.

A great big thank you to everyone involved in making our village such a wonderful place to live!

Our fabulous Parish Hall has definitely been the place to be this summer, despite the recent dreadful weather! Cheswardine village was brightened by another Barley's afternoon tea party on 28th July. A huge thank you to Barley's volunteers for making this event such a great success.

In addition to regular events, Cheswardine Parish Hall has been utilised by several private bookings over the summer which included a lovely christening. People attending thoroughly enjoyed our newly decorated hall, recently replaced conservatory and beautiful new bar to celebrate their baby boy's baptism.

Many thanks also to our merry gang of volunteers for all their hard work in running the bar. The bar can be booked for any hall event.

Please note: The bar accepts cards only and Barley's cafe accepts cash only donations.

FEEDBACK PLEASE!

We would love to hear your comments about any event you have attended. It would be great to hear about what's been successful as well as what could be improved to make your experience of using the Parish Hall more enjoyable. We are always seeking to make Cheswardine Parish Hall even better!

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY:

We have several big community events currently being planned for you to look forward to! These include:

• The next Big Breakfast event will be on 27th October 2024 in aid of the Parochial Church Council.
• A festive Cheswardine Christmas Celebration on Sunday 1st December 2024 raising funds for the Parish Hall.
• A great quiz night hosted by lovely Dave Clark (with pie and a pint too!) on Friday 17th January 2025. All proceeds will be in aid of the Parish Hall.

We are always in need of volunteers to help us with community events. If you could offer to help in any way, we would love to hear from you!

Please contact us on 07396 730220 or email [email protected]

Many thanks 😊

It’s exactly 25 years today since the Grand Reopening of Cheswardine Parish Hall when it was reopened on Sunday, 5th September in 1999 following extensive renovations and the building of an extension to bring it into the brand new Millenium year 2000

The whole village was invited to the prestigious opening event and the opening ceremony was performed by Chinese Musician Yang Jing who had previously raised monies towards the Hall’s renovations with a P**a Concert at the Parish Hall before its temporary closure whilst work was carried out

During the last 25 years our Parish Hall which originally opened in 1931 has gone from strength to strength and now also boasts a very successful and popular Coffee House known as Barley’s and a busy Community Shop

The Parish Hall is now as it has been for over 90 years run by an excellent team of volunteers it’s Board of Management which is made up of representatives of our many village clubs and organisations

The Parish Hall is a beautiful building which has fortunately retained its 1930s beautiful wooden sprung dance floor

The Hall which is used for many local village organisations and events and is also available for hire for parties and events

It is a beautiful building of which we are all deservedly very proud
