NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2025

Cheswardine is so beautiful this time of year! We've had spectacular sunrises, magical morning moons floating above mists and glittering icy views.

The starlings are back too! Their murmuration can currently be seen at dusk over the field opposite the red sheds on Haywood Lane. They're certainly worth watching!

WHAT'S ON!

We have lots to look forward to in the coming months including.....

MONDAY 3rd FEBRUARY

Barley's delicious bacon butties will be served every first Monday morning of the month.

P.s. Barley's are currently looking for more volunteers for either Monday mornings or Friday afternoons. Please pop in if you're interested.

SUNDAY 13TH APRIL
Spring Afternoon Tea will take place on Sunday 13th April and will be run by Barley's fabulous team.

SUNDAY 27th APRIL

Do you have a classic car or motorbike and fancy a chat, coffee and bacon butty?! If so, we would love to see you at our 'National Drive It' day, in the morning of Sunday 27th April. It's in aid of NSPCC Childline and there will be no entry fee either! 9am to 1pm on the playing field.

And finally, a really HUGE thank you to....

Many thanks again to our 'Bar Heroes' team! Their dedication and commitment to both past and forthcoming events being held at the Parish Hall have made a significant contribution to the costs of running our lovely Hall.

A special thanks to Mal for all her hard work and commitment to our village over the years. She has now retired from the Cheswardine Parish Hall BOM and bacon buttie duties.

Thank you very much to the Youth Group who donated £40 to the Parish Hall funds.

Welcome!

What a fun time was had by all at our Christmas Celebration on the 1st December!
Thank you to the Cheswardine Christmas elves (or our busy band of merry trustees and volunteers!) Who have been in their workshops planning and organising our village Christmas Celebration. We had kind donations from local people and retailers; there were some fabulous raffle prizes on offer too.
The event was organised for everyone in our local community, with free entry and free children's activities to make the event extra special.
All the proceeds of the celebration will
contribute to the ever increasing costs of
running, repairing and maintaining our lovely Parish Hall. The trustees strive to ensure it is a safe and pleasant place to be, now and for future generations.
We would like to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone who attended as we couldn't do any of this without you all!

We have
Ethan's Fresh fish van visiting every other Friday selling super fresh fish all the way from Grimsby.
He's next outside our village hall on Friday 20th December from 8.30am.
Please preorder for Christmas by Friday 13th

There is adult bingo night on Thursday 12th December from 6.30pm starting promptly at 6.50pm with lots of prizes available.

Ask Jane and Julie....
Their next display will be at Barley's on
Monday 16th December. They will be celebrating Cheswardine's connection to the making of local gingerbread.

Can anyone remember our village beacon being lit for the first time on December 31st 1999 for the Millennium? It's 25 years ago!

Barley's Coffee Shop.
Mal's delicious bacon baps will be on
sale on the 16th December.
On Monday 23rd December, come and have some festive fun! Wear your Christmas jumper and enjoy some pigs in blankets!

2025

Merry Christmas Cheswardine!

OCTOBER 2024 NEWSLETTER
NEWSLETTER

Currently, lovely Cheswardine is looking so beautiful; we've had some fantastic autumn sunsets, trees and hedges are glowing red and golden, and migrating geese fly noisily overhead. We've even been treated to a view of the shimmering Northern Lights too. How lucky are we?!

There's lots been happening behind the scenes too, where volunteer trustees have been making sure we will all be having fun in the dark winter months ahead..

Sunday 1st December 12.30 until 4pm
Cheswardine's spectacular Christmas event will include a visit from Father Christmas! There will be a grotto, a range of festive stalls, plus hot and cold refreshments to help us celebrate too. One of the top raffle prizes available will be afternoon tea at glorious Goldstone Hall for two!

Friday 6th December at 6.30pm until 8pm
Children's Christmas bingo. Tickets £2.

Friday 17th January 2025
Dave Clarke's fabulous Quiz Night with food and bar.

Sunday 27th April 2024
'Drive it' day! A classic car show in aid of Children in Need.

Thursday 8th May 2025:
VE Day Celebrations will include lighting the

beacon and a church service.

Ask Jane and Julie!
Did King Harold really end his days at here Cheswardine Castle and not die at the Battle of Hastings? Did Lady Godiva live here in Cheswardine?
We're very lucky to have lovely local historians Jane and Julie, who very kindly are happy to share their knowledge at Barley's Coffee Shop once a month:

Monday 4th November
War and Rememberance.
Monday 2nd December
Cheswardine's beacon: 25 years of service
Monday 16th December
Cheswardine's History Committee meeting (with gingerbread too!)

Lastly, (but certainly not least!) is Bacon buttie morning on the 11th November. It's

always busy and run by a great team of friendly volunteers so come along!
Barley's monthly raffle is drawn on this day too.

A great big thank you to everyone involved in making our village such a wonderful place to live!
