As much as I love creating and sharing my candles with all of you, I have to be honest about something: market days can be REALLY tough for small business owners like me and here’s why:

1. Unpredictable Weather
British weather is famously unpredictable. Setting up an outdoor stall in the rain, wind, or freezing temperatures is not fun.

2. High Costs
The fees for a stall at popular markets can be quite steep. When you factor in travel and the cost of materials, the expenses add up quickly. Sometimes, it feels like I’m barely breaking even.

3. Long Hours
Market days are LONGGGGG!! From setting up early in the morning to packing down, to unloading into storage again in the evening when the girls have gone to bed… it’s exhausting.

4. Inconsistent Sales
Sales can be hit or miss. Some days are fantastic, but other times, despite my best efforts, sales are disappointing. The uncertainty can be very disappointing.

6. Planning Stock
Balancing market prep with production is tricky, and I sometimes feel the uncertainly of what to make, and what to take is super stressful.

7. Emotional toll
The emotional rollercoaster of high and low sales days can be tough. Putting my heart into my products and not seeing them sell is disheartening.

8. The admin involved… oh god the admin!
The admin of a small business is intense, so much a paperwork for each event, so much advertising and pushing the event day is hard work.

The Silver Lining:
Despite these challenges, I’m grateful for every opportunity to meet my customers face-to-face, hear your feedback, and see your reactions to my candles. Your support means the world to me and keeps me going, even on the tough days. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
