#Harvest23 has come to a close. The last field has been cut and the combine can now rest after a busy 7 weeks of Harvest. Here’s our little Harvest Summary:🗺️ 2000 acres harvested 🌾 6000 tonnes in the shed ⏰ 289 hours and 36 minutes done in the combine 🌧️ 84.89ml of rain to contend with over the 7 weeks (🤯) 🚜 With cultivation and mole ploughing well underway, we’ll be onto the autumn drilling next 🚜
With the summer showers it’s been stop start on the home straight of #Harvest23 🚜 Before we can get going again we have to test the moisture of the crop to make sure it’s dry enough to start harvesting again 💧 A great reading of 14.9 in the oats means it’s all systems go again before the next shower! 🌦
With some consistent weather we have made great progress through #Harvest2023 🚜
We finished all of the wheat last week, and are now storming through the oats🌾
This variety of spring oats is called "Isabel", it is a milling oat and will be flaked for us to eat 🥣 🍪
Low moisture and great bushel weight of 54kg/hl, just what we want!
Fingers crossed we will be finishing off Harvest in the beans next week...🫘
🚜 It’s long days, long nights and battling with the weather 🌧️ but you can’t complain about countryside views like that on a summers evening 🌅

#Harvest2023 is underway with the first full day in the Barley today 🌾
The combine is still going this evening while it’s dry enough 🌝
Hoping these beautiful, sunny evenings stick around to help us get the work done this summer 🚜
🎶 Field beans are sleeping in a blankety bed💤
The pods are filling up as the beans are growing well 🫘
Beans are a great source of protein in our diet, and animals need that too. These beans will be mixed with cereals and other ingredients for animal feed to ensure the cattle and sheep receive the nutrients they need 🐮 🐑
Have you spotted this on one of our hedges on the Estate? 🕸️ 🫣
This spooky looking webbing is actually done by hundreds of tiny caterpillars of Ermine Moths 🐛
These webs and caterpillars are harmless and can usually be seen between April and July. They create these webs to protect themselves from predators. The webs will then gradually disappear throughout the summer, allowing the plants to recover. The adult Ermine Moths will then fly later in the summer and will be white or greyish with lots of small black spots.
The oats are coming along nicely now with the mix of some sunshine and then some rain ☀️ 🌦️
This variety of spring oats is called "Isabel", it is a milling oat and will be rolled for us to eat🌾
