The running maths that lead to the Trent Valley Ultra.

It was 11th May 2024 when Quadrio and friends first ran the TVU route. On that gloriously warm and sunny day, we didn’t start and finish at the Milestone Brewery and Tap Room….but we did pause eight miles from the end there for a pint of our favourite (and hugely refreshing) Pacific Islander.

And whilst flying down the Trent, freshly ‘fuelled’, that’s when we made a decision to invite you all along next time!

This time the pint will be at the finish line, rather than with a few miles still to go!

17th May 2025 and we do it all again, but with you all in tow!

Less than a mile in from the start of the Trent Valley Ultra and you’ll be at the river. Cromwell Lock is where you’ll capture your first glimpse of it close up.

This is the agreed tidal limit to the river Trent and tide levels don’t fluctuate past this point, further inland. From Cromwell to the sea, however, over the last few years, the wetlands have been recultivated to reintroduce a lot of wildlife back into the Trent.

You can often see otters in the water as far down as Cromwell. Keep a look out for them on event day!

Did you know that our route follows a chunk of the Trent Vale Trail?

This local initiative invested tens of thousands of pounds into the creation of an accessible footpath, linking the villages safely along the river Trent and allowing runners, walkers and cyclists to access our countryside with ease.

We love that this fits with our value of inclusivity.

It’s also what makes our route fast and runnable for all.

Imagine you’re enjoying a Sunday pint (IPA, stout, squash, water….you choose) and you’ve poured it into your Trent Valley Ultra pint glass.

What a memory, sitting there, looking at our pint glass with the TVU route (that’s the River Trent running through the middle there), and enjoying remembering your great day out!

We will soon be ordering finishers pint glasses, which all will have the above picture on! Our very creative tech guy has done us proud with this one!

A good friend once told us that, to support your mental health, exercise is important. He then went on to say that you can hugely multiply the benefit by exercising outdoors, also by being in nature at the time and, in addition, being next to an expanse of water.

Running by the river Trent today was just the boost needed.

Running, for many, is a lifeline. Maybe for the endorphin boost, maybe for the sense of perspective, maybe for a good friend to talk things through with (or sometimes just to be with, without talking).

The Quadrio hope you’ve had a good Tuesday, and hump day is something you can tackle with ease, tomorrow.

During the current ‘heatwave’ we thought we’d remind you of the details of the Trent Valley Ultra so far.

Many have already signed up to the first of this annual event. So here we go, for the rest of you who are yet to join us, here’s a reminder.

Distance - 50km

Date - Saturday 17th May 2025

Cut off - 10 hours

Finisher Memento - A unique pint glass for all participants!

Start and End - Milestone Brewery - Tap Room and Shop - epic venue!!!

The Route - A gorgeous loop of the River Trent, fast and flat mixed terrain. Perfect for a PB or a distance first timer.

Aid stations - Every six to eight miles supported by One Good Thing.

The End - Food trucks, DJ and brewery based celebration

Cost - £40 for Solo Entry, £75 if you sign up with a friend (no need to run together!)

The Team - Experienced ultra runners who want to put on events to encourage ultra running in our gorgeous local surroundings.

Accommodation - camping and caravan parks nearby….see our wonderful posts from local supporters

Another day, another ultra for the Quadrio crew. challenge events are literally a long distance picnic. There couldn’t have been better catering and support around the EXTREMELY MUDDY (we can’t capitalise that enough!) route of 50 Miles from Roundhay park this weekend.

The Trent Valley Ultra won’t be muddy, we will replicate the smiles of support and encouragement from this lovely MUDDY (did we already say that?) weekend challenge event in Leeds though.

There is surely no better day to announce our final value.

Running=Friendship

We run together because we found each other through running and through that bond we have created a running family.

This family is the extra life support that we all need. We have laughed, danced, sung, beared each other’s weight, cried and achieved together. Running is important to us, and we know it is to you.

We are privileged to have the responsibility for bringing like minded people together, to enjoy an experience together, through Quadrio Events.

Exciting green and sustainable news to share today. We are really excited to announce that One Good Thing and Quadrio will collaborate for the Trent Valley Ultra.

OGT have created wrapper-free energy bars for ultra runners. Quadrio met them at the National Running Show and hoped that they might come on board to provide sustainable and plastic free food options for our aid stations.

With our values aligning, and their innovation for creating products that fuel athletes well, whilst minimising the environmental impact, we are very much looking forward to welcoming them to the TVU team and line up on 17th May 2025.

Is it really only Tuesday afternoon?!

A 1 minute route video. You’ve seen the shape on our logo, you’ve seen it on a map, this is the route video from our GPX check. Checkpoints are every 6-8 miles and if it’s a gloriously warm day, we’ll pop a couple of extra water stations in for good measure.

Winter trail running! Always an adventure. Today was wildlife, knee high flooded ways, paths through box hedges and photos of feet around landmarks. Happy Sunday Runday everybody!
