1896, in Browns Hole, Daggett County, Utah, a large conglomerate of some 200 ranch hands and cowboys banded together to form what was to become known in some circles as the ‘Wild Bunch’. This band of merry individuals had amongst them none other than ‘Elza Lay’, ‘Butch Cassidy’, Matt Warner & Harry Longabough (The Sundance Kid).
128 years later*, a somewhat less threatening consortium of citizenry assembled at Scorrier House yesterday for the annual mass Re-enactment of the opening scene to the ‘Little House on the Prairie’ and by Jove did they get off to a roaring start. Their beaming little cherry red faces as they gambolled through the thigh high grass never fails to bring a smile to my face, and the kids seemed to enjoy it too. From far and wide they gathered, new faces and old, assembling before the house, putting life & limb on line in a breathtaking on point display demonstrating the myriad of different ways to try and keep breathing whilst navigating the course.
*PGE have already reserved the movie rights and are currently in discussion with Danny Boyle.
Some chose the fun run (legal arguments are ongoing), others picked a 5k, some who were feeling double hard elected for the 10k, and then there were those who quite frankly just won’t be told, selecting the Half Marathon as their afternoon entertainment choice. All were shouted at by an aggressive looking man with an obviously gang related tattoo of a Glittery Salamander on one cheek before being told to run, and run they did. On their return they had a plethora of recovery options, including but not limited to: Advocate, Ice Cream, Massage therapy, Cake, Pernod, Pizza, Face painting & sherry, all consumed whilst dad dancing to ‘Black Magic ‘ by Little Mix…‘ansom
Scorrier is not an easy course, hats off to everyone who gave it a go yesterday!
