There it was, totally unexpected and out of the blue, some mythical mischievous malcontent was endeavouring to weak meteorological mayhem on our macabre jamboree with storm Ashley. Anyone familiar with PGE will know that traditionally our events are sunny affairs with blue skies, calm seas, gentle breezes and a bountiful selection of exquisite house cocktails (2 for 1 on Mai Tai’s during October) and complimentary scalp massages. Initially there was concern, which gradually progressed to a Devil May Care attitude, before transitioning into a borderline lackadaisical approach, before culminating in outright damnable nonchalance. The scalp massaging cocktail bar had to close but fortunately we could still legally make people run whilst being chased by some deranged lunatic in red fairy lights*
*Patent pending.

They came out in force and were dressed to kill, blood soaked Nuns and priests, witches, goblins and ghouls, ‘The purge’ candidates were on good form, zombies, a plethora of monsters, poisonous mushrooms (I’m going with poisonous), skeletons, pumpkins, Freddys, Jasons and all the classics plus some random in a very large Dark Bunny Rabbit outfit (Said his name was Frank), but my personal favourite was an inflatable Penguin seen hopping towards the pizza van, absolutely terrifying, made my blood run cold.
Last night was epic, thank you everyone who made it happen, what a phenomenal night.

Just some of the international headlines coming in this afternoon as footage of this mornings 20km trail run (loosely based on a nifty hybrid version of Squid Game combined with the Maze Runner) reverberated around the globe. This year’s theme was relatively simple, give them a 23 minute head start on a potentially TEOTWAWKI intergalactic storm that had been dispatched from Toulouse and see how many survive. By all accounts the threat of being washed away in a flash flood or turned into a crispy trail runner kebab proved to be all the incentive most required to get them through the day. It wasn’t all plain sailing however, by the time the back markers arrived at the CP the bountiful buffet was now resembling a selection of cold soups & peculiar Ramen, and several of the brave Geckonaughts were leaking as they crossed the finish line.
They started today in the Sun on Portreath Beach supporting Man down - supporting men’s mental health, the weather may have adjusted a tad as the morning progressed and some definitely found the day a little more challenging than others, but they all got out there and did it, congratulations to you all, whatever your outcome.
