Today marks the meteorological start of summer. In 20 days time we will mark the summer solstice, a date which has been celebrated for generations, Shakespeare even wrote a play about midsummers eve. Its a great opportunity to wear flowers in your hair or invite friends for a summer party. Join me for a Summer solstice inspired flower arranging workshop. We will make table centres and flower crowns (you can always float these in a dish if you don't want to wear them.) Farewell flowers are so important, the last thing a florist can do for someone. These flowers were for a gentleman who loved his garden and music, so the theme was an English Country Garden and his own trumpet was incorporated into the design. All arranged in Floral fibre (100%biodegradable) and recycled trays. The flowers were made into small posies after the service and wrapped in brown paper for family and friends to enjoy at home. No plastic waste.
A little something for the weekend. It's been a week of demonstrations and teaching, so with a few leftover stems and some from the garden I have an arrangement for me. Green and white is the colour scheme for May. Just look at the hedgerows mother nature dictated the pallet. A fab foam free container gifted to me by when I visited is one of my favourites. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend and some much needed sunshine ๐

Today is the start of the Chinese lunar year, 2024, is represented by the dragon. I thought I would share a design I made as part of the cultural study part of my British Master Florist qualification . I made a design to celebrate the new year with a handmade golden dragon. I later upcycled it for a wedding with orchids and peonies staying with the Asia theme with flowers native to that area of the world.

One of my favourite January designs created in January 2020 before the world went mad, in France under the guidance of Gregor Lersch. I love the contrast between the stark winter trees and the spring flowers. When we are nearing the end of January spring still feels a long way off, bringing flowers into the home bring cheer.
Friday flowers on a cold frosty day what better thing to do than immerse yourself in the world of flowers. Introduction to floristry in the morning looked at the classic posy arrangement using floral fibre and the intermediate group did a cascading arrangement again in . I introduced techniques to this groups including rolling and cupping of leaves and a bit of feathering. A one day couse is coming up in March these courses fill quickly

Have you taken your Christmas wreath down yet? Still lots of life left in your wreath so why not redress it and pop it back up until spring. Remove all the Christmas bits and add some spring bulbs for a winter into spring wreath.
Once the sparkle of Christmas is packed away there is nothing I like more than spring flowers to get me through January
