Admittedly today was a LITTLE damp…. Some brave souls did visit us in the endless downpour! Heroic souls. All this rain has made the woods even greener and more beautiful than before. 💚

Tomorrow there is at least some ☀️between the ⛈️ so please come and see these vibrant paintings in some surprising places.

The tennis hut or ‘kiosk’ was actually the first structure to be built at Templewood alongside the tennis court. As keen tennis players both Viscount Templewood and the architects Paul & John felt it was necessary to have somewhere to play whilst the house was being built!

The hut has had a bit of a renovation and is opening its doors as a pop up cafe where you will be able to buy tea, coffee, soft drinks, cakes and toasties this weekend. CASH ONLY as we don’t have internet out in the wilderness 😆. The weather is looking damp so remember your wellies, there will be some undercover seating available by the hut.

Today we have been choosing the best spots for the exhibition with the help of Siri from Cromer Artspace. The woods are really looking spectacular. There are some muddy spots so no white trainers!!! You’ve been warned!

The pictures have arrived, the woods are looking magnificent and we’re getting ready for this amazing woodland exhibition. Even the tennis court is getting a facelift!

25th & 26th May 10-4pm with Lowtide Cromer pop up cafe supplying tea & coffee, cold drinks, cakes and toasties. Entrance is free with donations to Cromer Artspace.
Dogs on leads are welcome.
We really look forward to welcoming you to Templewood.

(Please note that currently there are no public toilets, apart from behind a tree 🤭)

SAVE THE DATE! 25th & 26th May 10am - 4pm
Come to Templewood for a walk in the beautiful woods with some special surprises hiding amongst the trees.

A woodland art exhibition with paintings generously on loan from Cromer Artspace from their ‘pictures around Cromer’ project.

Entrance is FREE and there will be light refreshments available from Lowtide Cromer pop up cafe.

As the dust settles we are now thinking… what next?! Well, we do have another event coming up at the end of May so watch this space for more details.

Our final performance of Dido last night to a sold out house. What a triumph of creativity from our fabulous team, Bertie Anderson, Eddie Anderson, Edmund Taylor, Jane Murphy, Jacqueline Barker and a host of other behind the scenes starlets that we could not have done without.

The room is being prepared, the lights are being programmed, costumes are being bejewelled & props are being are made! In just over 3 weeks the cast will arrive for rehearsals and the stage will be set ready for you to come and experience this unique production. 🎭🎶🏛️

Our cast for Dido & Aeneas is mostly made of women with Dido, her sister Belinda, second woman (who doesn’t get a name 🤔) the Sorceress and her two witch sisters with the inspired names of 1st & 2nd Witch…

Suggestions of names for these characters?

This is Claire, who is playing Belinda.. Belinda has some beautiful solos. She encourages Dido to follow her love for Aeneas and is by Dido’s side all the way, including during the tragic ending…

Incredible soprano from our live colleagues will be joining us to perform Belinda in Dido & Aeneas atthe Overstrand Festival of Early Music ! We are super excited to work alongside such a wonderfully expressive performer! (And she’s pretty excited about having a swim too!) 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️

“Claire Ward is a City Music Foundation Artist 2022-2024 and a young artist with Opera Prelude. In 2023 she made her solo debuts at Queen Elizabeth Hall with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment conducted by John Wilson, and at St. Martin-in-the-fields with her baroque trio The Portrait Players. In April 2023 Claire joined The Monteverdi Choir in performances of Bach’s B Minor Mass and Berlioz Les Troyens as a Monteverdi apprentice working with John Eliot Gardiner and Dinis Sousa in tours across Europe. On stage, Claire has performed at Opera Holland Park in the chorus and in the role of Frantik, in The Cunning Little V***n. In 2019 she covered the role of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro at The Grange Festival and in the same year sang the role of Venus in John Blow’s Venus and Adonis at the Royal Academy of Music. Claire made her Oxford Song Festival debut in 2019, returning to the festival in 2021. She works frequently with Live Music Now, devising interactive concerts for school and care settings. When not singing, Claire loves swimming, and in her spare time is usually found training for a long swim or a triathlon.“

Our venues - Templewood, Northrepps
Built as a base for country activities, Templewood incorporates architectural fragments from Nuthall Temple in Nottinghamshire and the Old Bank of England. Constructed in 1938 in Palladian style, the house is set in parkland and approached down a long tree-lined avenue. We are very excited that the owners of Templewood are not only welcoming us into their wonderful home but also will be an integral part of our Opera Dido and Aeneas. Directed by Bertie Anderson and expertly supported by Eddie Anderson we are excited to see their innovative ideas realised in our Opera.
