Billy Joel is 75 this week. I have done a special mix this month featuring 29 songs from one of my favourite singer/songwriters. Believe it or not its 10 years since the passing of the Godfather of House Frankie Knuckles. A producer & remixer of real soulful house music and an inspiration to many. I hope this set of mixes does his efforts some justice. They are a collection of my favourite Frankie Knuckles reworks many with added strings, percussion, keys & basslines as only a Frankie Knuckles production could have. His mixes where always the ones i most looked forward to on release day, he rarely disappointed and sometimes gave a "soul" to tracks that had "no soul". Now that is a skill. From interviews i have seen he was a very "positive" kinda guy and a lover of all music. He was a class act.

I generally think this every time i do a new mix BUT......this is my fave mix at the moment. I managed to get every classic "I Like" in the two mixes. From over 130 titles i chose 100 tracks to make up what was going to be a very long mix. I have edited it down to two shorter mixes. Thanks to the DJs of MDJN and the members of "Funk & Soul & Disco" for their invaluable input. 50 stone cold classics from the vaults over 2 and a half hours. From the vaults - this mix from 2016 is a compilation of some of my favourite Motown cuts. I’m not a big fan of what most people would consider the classic “Motown Sound” probably from having flogged them to death at many a wedding, A few 60 classics creep in but the majority of my faves are from the 70’s & 80’s – a far smoother era. As always i have used a lot of re-edits & remixes to make the mix sound a bit “modern”. It began as a 90 minute mix but i kept adding stuff, so its now a 2 Part mix. What is all this about......To some its gonna just sound like a load of old bonkers clips knocked together.......to those that know - it will be a journey through classic (mainly 70's) TV and movie soundtracks. Using quite a few of my own extended edits to help the flow, mixed with some dialogue moments for added authenticity. Its an art this mixing lark....dontchaknow. Sit back, put your headphones on.......close your eyes...its time for a blockbuster. This mix includes clips from Planet Of The Apes / Marathon Man / Escape From New York / Six Million Dollar Man / Get Carter / Sweeney / Bladerunner and much more.

Another of my favourite labels from the late 70's early 80's is Solar Records (Sound Of Los Angeles Records). Their biggest acts where The Whispers, Shalamar & Midnight Star here in the UK.......but there were others of note. I am about to sound like an old geezer but "they dont make music like this anymore". Funky soulful house, the type that i used to look forward to arriving at the record shop (off the imports van) every Saturday morning. Happy days.
