Sometimes things are just meant to be, there are places that I’m meant to visit and I feel this way about Hundhowe House near Kendal. Today I was lucky enough to celebrate the love of R & S there, surrounded by those they love most dearly. I can’t wait to show you more of this wonderful venue and wedding soon. 🫶🙋🏻♀️

They need you the most after the funeral.
Long after the casserole dishes are returned. Long after the obituary stops running in the local paper. Long after the flowers have wilted. Long after they come back to work.
This is the time they feel most alone.
In the days just after their loved one passed, they are overwhelmed with texts and visits. All coming at one time. A whirlwind. The reality of it all doesn’t set in yet. They are on auto pilot. Still numb with shock.
But then everyone goes on with life. And reality starts to set in. And the tears start to fall.
Social media posts of girls nights, concerts and birthdays come across their feed. People joking around at work. Others are making vacation plans. The rude awakening that life goes on after the worst day of their life sets in.
And they are feeling so alone.
Right now.
Long after the funeral.
This is when they need you most.
A card.
A shoulder to cry on.
A visit.
A memory to share.
A text.
A tight hug.
Please keep reaching out.
They will never forget that you were there for them. When they needed it the most.

Muchas gracias S & R. 🫶Kind words are always welcome because this is how we ‘attract’ other couples and families. 🤔It rather makes me cringe because I was brought up to be humble and not to ‘blow your own trumpet’, so to speak. It took me until my forties to accept praise graciously and not go red and cringe. So, thank you so much lovely people who leave me such kind and positive words as a review. Apparently, it boosts one up the search engine! 😲 No double entendre intended! 😆

Everything about Sunday’s wedding at Eden Barn was amazing but this, well and truly, bowled me over! 😃 casually stood at the back and recorded S & B’s wedding in oil paint! How incredible is that? 😲 The final painting brought a tear to my eye because it featured Tutti, the couple’s beloved cat,who is at home in Dubai, being lovingly cared for by a cat sitter. Miles away but very much present on the day and always in S & B’s hearts. 🐾🩷

I’ve had several of my wedding couples confused and pressured by the registry service. You are entitled to the 2 + 2, statutory signing service. It should be around or less than £100. It seems that there are some underhanded tactics at play. 🙁

As a community celebrant, there are such emotional contrasts in my working day. Today I have the privilege of officiating a Service of Thanksgiving for a much loved mother of a large, local family. This afternoon I’ll prep for tomorrow’s local wedding and we’ll have a rehearsal at the venue. This is exactly where I wanted to be. Providing celebrant led ceremonies, for all rites of passage, for the community I care about. 🫶

What a day! Enjoyed every minute of Lucy & James’s wedding day at Ghyll barn. Stupendous suppliers doing their thing to make the day unforgettable. I had a little chat with someone yesterday about the LEGAL aspect of MARRIAGE. I explained that when a baby is born, their birth is registered a few days/weeks later. When someone dies, their death is registered a few days later. And so, it makes perfect sense for a couple to register their marriage before or after their wedding day. Don’t get hung up on the legal aspect. The celebration of your love, with the commitment of marriage on your celebrant led wedding day, is what is important and significant! It makes such sense to make it as PERSONAL as possible.

As I get older I believe more and more in serendipity. I met today’s family through a girl I used to go to school with, forty years ago, on the Wirral. So, as well as having the honour of leading the Celebration of Life for their husband/dad, I reunited with two old school friends. Family, friends and neighbours gathered, in front of the most amazing view, to mark his final rite of passage. Everyone used their talents and worked together to erect the marquee, decorate the area and the focal point grey Fergie tractor, set up the sound system, make a lectern out of bits of old banister, et cetera. His son spoke eloquently and lovingly of his dad, we sang together and listened to the most stirring choice of music. Swallows swooped to the phrasing of the music. I have been so remarkably restrained in not sharing details of Saturday’s fabulous local farming wedding. 🚜 First up, the fact that they moved the location from the top of Stainmore, down the valley to a sheltered field, next to the river a couple of days before. We had the most awful windy storms at the end of last week and a tipi ceremony tent and massive reception marquee would not have still been in Cumbria if erected in the original location. But farming folk just ‘bray on’ and solve that problem. Impassable muddy track transformed into a road in no time! A Celebrant Led Wedding Ceremony is unlike any other because it is totally bespoke and personal to the couple, as unique as they are. Church ceremonies, by their very nature, include a lot of religion and registrar ceremonies have many limitations because of time constraints. Because they are so busy they can’t devote the time a celebrant does to making the ceremony entirely about the couple. They can only slot names from a post it note into the set script they provide. (I’ve seen this recently.) I’m not dissing either of these weddings because each have their place. But if you want an a ceremony that is, truly, all about you then engage a celebrant. What makes a Celebrant Ceremony SO Special! 💕We get to know you and you get to know us. By the time of your actual wedding ceremony you will be welcomed by a familiar face. In my case, grinning like the Cheshire Cat! 😁 We will have met, possibly several times, before the day. If miles allow, in person, if not via Zoom or FaceTime. In the case of B & J, Mr G and I had a trip out over to Loweswater in February to meet this gorgeous pair for a reccy by the lake shore to chose the ideal location and suss out a back up, if needs must. I met them there again on the evening before the wedding with family and friends to see how it would work. On the actual day a wedding ceremony in the shore of Loweswater could not have been more perfect! They kindly asked @laraluisphotography and I to stay for the wedding breakfast because we were friends by then. That is the biggest and best bit about a celebrant led ceremony. You’re married by someone who cares about you and making your ceremony the very best it can be. Also, we only officiate one ceremony a day so it’s totally relaxed, without any pressure on time at all. SLOWVEMBER 🎆 DAY 5 🎆 Fireworks🎆 It had to be this day, back in May. Party at the Pier Head in Liverpool on Eurovision final night. The city was truly ‘United by Music 🎶 ’. My heart was filled with joy to overflowing❤️. Singing and dancing (for nine hours) 💃🏻, with people from every corner of the globe, in the place I still call home, with friends I adore will stay with me forever. It also happened to be my birthday as the Liver Building clock chimed midnight and this song, the only song it could be, rang out across The Mersey.
