It felt like Heaven on Earth on my early morning walk this morning. A chance to breathe deeply, greet the sheep cheerily and set the tone for the next few busy days. I am VERY lucky. *I was standing in the middle of a little stone circle, looking up the Eden Valley to Penrith, across to the Pennines, over to Mallerstang and around to Shap Fell and the M6 corridor. A ceremonial space was created for J & P to stand in for the duration of their ceremony. 🫶I laid down a circle of ivy, symbolising fidelity and then a friend, with two young helpers, sprinkled over eucalyptus, which has a purifying effect and rose petals for love, of course, but also joy and gentleness. Finally I sprinkled some compostable glitter into the space to bring sparkle into their lives. ✨ Every ceremony different, every ceremony personal. 🩷Talking of, when I asked family and friends to support our lovely couple throughout their marriage with a rousing ‘we do’, P’s old Sergeant Major rose to his feet and in his big, booming voice demanded and even more rousing response! Lots of positivity and little challenges to myself this month to keep me busy and focussed to keep the sadness at bay. I’m going for ‘one take’ videos because I am, who I am! No more re-recording because my grey hair, wrinkles and double chin are on show. Spontaneity when sharing. I wish I could have taken you all on my early morning dog walk/litter pick/ self medication this morning! Apart from picking up way too much litter (what’s wrong with people?) my walk was truly exhilarating. As I get older I believe more and more in serendipity. I met today’s family through a girl I used to go to school with, forty years ago, on the Wirral. So, as well as having the honour of leading the Celebration of Life for their husband/dad, I reunited with two old school friends. Family, friends and neighbours gathered, in front of the most amazing view, to mark his final rite of passage. Everyone used their talents and worked together to erect the marquee, decorate the area and the focal point grey Fergie tractor, set up the sound system, make a lectern out of bits of old banister, et cetera. His son spoke eloquently and lovingly of his dad, we sang together and listened to the most stirring choice of music. Swallows swooped to the phrasing of the music. I have been so remarkably restrained in not sharing details of Saturday’s fabulous local farming wedding. 🚜 First up, the fact that they moved the location from the top of Stainmore, down the valley to a sheltered field, next to the river a couple of days before. We had the most awful windy storms at the end of last week and a tipi ceremony tent and massive reception marquee would not have still been in Cumbria if erected in the original location. But farming folk just ‘bray on’ and solve that problem. Impassable muddy track transformed into a road in no time! A Celebrant Led Wedding Ceremony is unlike any other because it is totally bespoke and personal to the couple, as unique as they are. Church ceremonies, by their very nature, include a lot of religion and registrar ceremonies have many limitations because of time constraints. Because they are so busy they can’t devote the time a celebrant does to making the ceremony entirely about the couple. They can only slot names from a post it note into the set script they provide. (I’ve seen this recently.) I’m not dissing either of these weddings because each have their place. But if you want an a ceremony that is, truly, all about you then engage a celebrant.
