As I pack away my January resources, I've so many wonderful highlights from my Childhood theme...
..hearing that marbles were called 'alleys', plimsolls were called 'daps' and pumps', and how to use vinegar to cheat at conkers 🌰
..hearing residents remember every word of the Lords Prayer and every lyric of Morning has Broken 🙏
..the gentleman who shouted out 'kiss chase' when asked what he did in the playground and the other one who described in minute detail the bruise from the blackboard rubber that was launched at him 🤕
..seeing people smile at Mabel, my porcelain faced doll, and having a sneaky look at the Troll's bare bottom 🙈
..hearing wartime memories including those, happy and sad, of evacuation and those of unknown fathers who returned from war 🙁
..the surprise and interest at hearing about the zoo in Ferndown (and it's escapees!) 🐍
..EVERY resident singing with gusto along to A Windmill in old Amsterdam as young care staff sat in total bewilderment 😂

I'd definitely call it a success ❤️

I couldn't plan my High Street theme without researching the history of Beales. I'm looking forward to hearing residents...

I couldn't plan my High Street theme without researching the history of Beales. I'm looking forward to hearing residents' memories of visiting the flagship Bournemouth store, their thoughts on its demise and also opinions on the current redevelopment (left pic artist's impression) 👀

Oh where did you get that hat?

My boater, which we restored after finding it covered in dust with the top hanging off, has been a real hit. I've also been delighted to hear memories of school uniforms, with lots of ladies discussing the Panama hats they wore in the summer and felt berets which were their winter uniform, along with gents discussing their blazers and school caps 😊

I did my final 1954 session with the lovely folk at Heathland House Care Home this morning and we all agreed it was a fantastic, and very varied, year for music 🎵

Big band hits from Billy Cotton and Glenn Miller, groundbreaking boogie woogie from Winifred Atwell and a wonderful smattering of Doris and Dean. We also managed to squeeze in Bless your Beautiful Hide and Rock around the Clock!

Every group has finished well known expressions such as 'If I've told you once...', 'Don't say what, say...' and 'Wait til your father...'

This afternoon I 'unlocked' 1954 with the lovely residents at Whitegates Care Home and felt very privileged that, on hearing it would be a year from the 1950s, one wonderful lady brought her wedding album to show me ❤️
