Dance academy becomes affiliate of London Ballet Company in St Albans.

St Albans-based Let’s Dance Academy is celebrating being selected as an affiliate school of The London Ballet Company for the local area.

Established in 1968, LDA has grown to become one of the largest schools in Hertfordshire with approximately 450 students attending classes each week.

Becky Sherman, who grew up in St Albans and studied with LDA from the age of three, has been the school’s principal since 2016.

She said: “I feel this will be an amazing opportunity for our dancers and a huge opportunity for us to improve and develop the classical ballet side of the school.

“I’m extremely proud of the hard work of both our students and teachers in securing such an opportunity.”

The selection process involved an interview and class observation to secure the affiliation and LDA will now benefit from yearly workshops and visits from The London Ballet company as well as the opportunity to perform with their professional dancers for the three-year duration of the affiliation.

A huge well done to our super Ballet exam students! Our examiner was unwell so we had a last minute swap to remote exams and they all took it in their stride and performed beautifully!

Calling all ballet boys!

LDA is very excited to announce that we are now an “Affiliate School of The London Ballet Company.” One of our aims this year was to connect our students to the amazing career and training opportunities within the arts.

So after an interview, class observation and selection process we’re very excited to have been offered the affiliation. The London Ballet Company's ethos is to develop self-expression, individuality and performance artistry to enhance technique, flexibility, musicality, creativity, choreography, acting skills, free movement and improvisation. I think this sits perfectly with our ethos here at LDA.

We’re very excited about this opportunity. We will be in touch with parents regarding the exclusive opportunities this will bring to our students!

So proud Rose 🌹

⚡️INTRODUCING EMERGENCE ‘24⚡️

Now introducing Rose Upton-Creed .uc1

Born in Hull, Rose grew up in Northern Ireland and Hertfordshire. She began dancing regularly at age 13, taking ISTD classes at Let's Dance Academy, St Albans.

In 2017, she was selected for Trinity Laban's CAT Scheme. Here she discovered her love for contemporary dance, especially floorwork. She worked with Bim Malcomson and Luke Birch, performing their commissioned works at the Bonnie Bird Theatre. She also undertook work experience with Shobana Jeyasingh Dance and was subsequently offered the role of SJD Youth Ambassador.

In 2019, Rose was offered a place at Trinity Laban Conservatoire studying BA (Hons)
Contemporary Dance, where she trained in a variety of techniques and worked with Ali Curtis-Jones, Matthew Harding, and Charles Lineham. In her final year, she toured various venues in London, including the main stage at Move It. She also collaborated and performed in a peer-led project surrounding dance and parkour.

Rose has often pursued an interest in the science-arts relationship, choosing to focus her final independent project on chaos, (disorder, and dance. Following graduation, Rose became an apprentice at Mystic Ballet in Connecticut, USA. Over the MB2 season, she performed multiple roles at Mystic Darkroom.

Outside of dance, Rose enjoys yoga, aerial silks, climbing, travel, surfing and anything beach.
