Mossarts: David Moss Paintings - ‘The breadth of visual possibility seems to increase, so many themes and ideas, most of them half-baked and unresolved, such is the creative process. I can barely define some of the themes, but perhaps all are connected in some way with “the sublime”.

Nature magic which occurs through sitting out painting in landscape, even the limited locked down landscape of my suburban garden, may even be intensified by the limitation. Plants, ornaments, trees, the pond have all taken on characters and significance. Widening ‘the sublime’ to working with the elements and seasons: wind, rain and frost impacting on the surfaces of my explorations. Then, ’the sublime’ inner landscapes - making visible an unseen essence, also in an actual sense - working on slate from once hidden crystals, azurite, ruby, zoicite, green strawberry quartz – the most intense and vivid colours imaginable, yet having formed and lain hidden in darkness for many millions of years.

And then ‘the sublime’ reimagined and reimaged from the architecture and decoration of sacred spaces, El Alhambra in Granada, a ruined mausoleum in Bath, Rosslyn Chapel, York Minster along with the associated traditions and legends - the Green Man / Goddess archetype, and El Khidr - The Green One, mysterious figure of Islamic and Sufi paths.

The paintings often begin rough and sketchy or over a previous idea or some randomly applied surface texture. Creating chaos and accidents as a starting point. Then over-layering, scraping back, re-applying materials and gradually identifying an essence, a conversation, a theme or an idea and refining it, bringing it out as best I can.’

Tracey Mawson Ceramic Artist -'Yorkshire based Tracey Mawson Ceramic Artist takes inspiration from the rolling waves and falling leaves of nature. Using traditional hand building techniques to form her pieces, Tracey controls the clay whilst also enjoying it's natural ability to move, relishing the texture of a ripped edge against a simple silhouette. The use of different firing techniques including raku and horse hair, keeps her ceramics vibrant & contemporary.'

Instagram -'I practice traditional silversmithing and jewellery making which I have done alongside a career in engineering. My designs are unique one-off pieces of silver jewellery and silversmithing that I make in my home workshop in West Yorkshire.

My jewellery features and is inspired by nature especially the geometry and patterns found in nature and Islamic art. I especially find the hexagon to be harmonious and features in nature in honeycomb structures as well as atomic structures and chemical formulas of compounds. My biomorphic designs feature leaf based spiral designs and are designed to wrap around and embrace.

I would like my pieces to invoke a sense of peace and harmony. When I am designing them as well as the aesthetic, I try to infuse love and meaning into them.'

Instagram -'I am an emerging stained glass artist, living and working in Huddersfield and currently make my stained glass creations in a makeshift studio in my loft. I fell in love with glass nearly two years ago whilst attending an introductory course - Lockdown had come to an end and, as a busy mother, I wanted an opportunity to get out of the house and learn a new craft. I took part in my first craft market 8 months later.

I have always been fascinated with stories and, after graduating from university, spent 15 years as a successful Children’s Librarian. The Librarian in me loves to tell a story through my stained glass designs and, for me, etching is the perfect mode of expression. I love ‘sketching’ onto both sides of the glass to add details, texture and depth. I also love to experiment with different polishes and gilding waxes to accent different parts of my design, allowing details to emerge and fade as the daylight changes throughout the day – like a story unfolding.'

Crafty Baggage -'I have been working as a historic Seamstress and fibre artist for 6 years,
producing bespoke commissions and spreading the joy of crafting with workshops.
I love inspiring by teaching community and private workshops mainly in needle and wet felting, but also rag rugging, embroidery and other crafts.
After spending the last few year developing and finding my style,
this year I would like to focus on the creating, and producing many unique felted items.'

Suze Mary Art -'My primary focus is the creation of oil painted pet portraits. Last year, I presented a collection of original pieces, complemented by greeting cards and prints. Looking ahead, my plans for this year involve continuing to offer these, alongside a 2025 calendar featuring Sheffield Retired Greyhounds. Additionally, I aim to expand my paintings by presenting a broader selection of original oil paintings, which will encompass a variety of wildlife and farm animal themes. I also intend to complete an oil painting over the weekend as a demonstration of techniques.'

Pippi Silver -'Rachael lives in Holmfirth with her family – husband, 2 children and little dog Pippi. She started making jewellery some 14 years ago after attending a silver clay jewellery course, mainly making fingerprint and other personalised jewellery for friends and family.
Fast forward to 2024 she works mainly in silver clay using patterns and textures to create simple yet classic pieces for everyday, often utilizing a patina to enhance the detail in a design.
Taking advantage of the nature and seasons around her as inspiration for designs especially as she spends a lot of time roaming around the Holme Valley on dog walks where new ideas take shape in the beautiful landscapes we are so lucky to live in.'

Rachael Gorton Art -'Rachael is fascinated by the dynamic relationship between humankind and the natural world. Her paintings explore this intricate connection, examining how nature mirrors our emotions, experiences and memories whilst also considering its transformative power on our emotions, behaviours and human narratives. Rachael’s landscapes and garden-scapes, captured from various viewpoints, invite the soothing and illuminating presence of nature indoors, offering solace and clarity in today’s often-hectic world.'

Frances Noon Mixed Media Sculpture & Jewellery -'I make mixed-media sculptures and jewellery. My sculptures feature animals and birds, hand cut & stamped from brass & copper combined with painted wooden elements. Each piece is made by hand so I can change the details & my creatures tend to take on individual characters.

Some are made as stand alone pieces, some as slightly larger structures and some as wall works.

My range of themes is always growing and includes sailing boats, trees and woodland scenes, sheds and beach huts, windmills, lighthouses and bird houses on stilts.

Birds and flowers are the theme for my jewellery, in silver, bronze & copper. My work is figurative & is the result of the enjoyment I get from working & drawing in my garden.

I have been making my work since 2008. I produce everything in my workshop at home in Slaithwaite. I sell my work in many galleries across the UK.

This is a current list of just some of the Galleries where my work is stocked.
Leeds Craft and Design Gallery.
The Ropewalk Gallery. Baron upon Humber.
No 4 Gallery. St Abbs, Scotland.
Heart Gallery. Hebden Bridge.
Newcastle Arts Centre.
Dog House Gallery. Northern Ireland.

Vicky Wilmot -'I create handmade leather and faux bags, sneakers, wallets, key rings and other small items. All my leather and hardware is sourced in the UK, I also recycle hardware as I am not a fan of sending it to landfill if I can reuse something.

We are originally from Sheffield but have lived in Shepley for over 12 years. I have worked in the local pharmacy and cafe but am now retired. I was looking for a hobby and after attending a 2 day course with Jason Stocks-Young making a beautiful leather bag I was hooked.

I like to try and support the local community, I am a member of Shepley WI and am part of the Friends of Cliffe House group.'

Brownfish Designs -'Brownfish Designs…..Over 10 years of making I’ve faffed and experimented to get my style and designs to where they are today. I’m so lucky to love what I do. Working in my garden studio I stock several fabulous shops and galleries and receive invitations to some amazing events.
My most popular ranges and the ones adore making are those I create from vintage and unwanted tins. A dint, spot of rust or scratch are not flaws, just added character, part of the tins story, a life well lived!!!
My store cupboard is overflowing with copper wire, chunks of old wood, tins, vintage bottles, rusty nails & old beads…..I just love making something out of nothing and hope people get as much enjoyment out of wearing my jewellery as I do creating it.'

Sutherland feather art -'Julie & Zoe Cunningham, mother, and daughter duo have challenged the whole concept of a canvas! Real Feathers

"Nature on Nature"

A very fragile and unusual canvas! As you can imagine each feather will move, so the correct amount of pressure, paint and water must be applied. Their feathers are sourced from their own poultry, up-cycled, and recycled.

Julie experimented with several different mediums before finally choosing feathers, which she now associates with the sad loss of Frank her grandson at only 17 days old.

They endeavour to capture the character and beauty of nature, with her fine detailed, miniature paintings on feathers.'

Carrie Kendra Ceramics -'Carrie loves to explore all aspects of hand building, from shaping flat slabs of porcelain white stoneware into elegant functional ware, to coiling and pinching clay into sculptural works.
She loves the problem-solving solving aspect of functional work, and the challenges incurred by existing within the framework of balancing the needs of purpose, functionality and aesthetics.
Carrie finds sculptural work freeing in that the only ‘rules’ are that the piece needs to be structurally sound (no collapsing on people). It doesn’t need to be functional i.e. hold water, glazes can be anything aesthetically, they don’t need to be food safe. The meaning and intention of a piece is predominant whether it be a concept or a translation of a true life form into clay.'

- ‘Amanda’s jewellery features simple lines and soft organic textures, and often includes sea glass. Using simple processes and traditional tools, Amanda carefully incorporates these small gem-like treasures into her pieces. She uses recycled eco silver in the majority of her work
The Lindisfarne collection is inspired specifically by Holy Island in Northumberland - the landscape, history, and natural environment. Against this backdrop, Amanda is always more aware of the origins of sea glass as man-made waste. Its presence on the beach feels somehow more incongruous, a reminder of our imposition on the natural world. The collection incorporates glass collected exclusively on the beaches around the island. A small range of unique, one of a kind jewellery.

The collection also includes a range of pieces featuring sterling silver castings of original St Cuthbert’s beads. Tiny fossilised crinoids - segments of a marine creature resembling an underwater sea lily - which lived up to 300 million years ago in the shallow waters around the island. The small bead-like fossils wash onto the beach and, in medieval Northumberland, were strung together as necklaces or rosaries and became associated with St Cuthbert.’

LDMDesign -'Hello I’m Lucy the indie business owner of LDMDesign based in West Yorkshire. I call myself an eco-conscious artist because I consider the environment in every step of my business.

I focus my work on Lino cut carvings that are inspired by nature , each one Hand Printed with an earthy colour palette that I then developed into ethical, function focus and joyful products.

I make designs that create conversations around sustainability and promote an eco way of living. The nature of lino and the unique effect it creates is alluring and charismatic, each piece original in its own way.

I sell a range of products including my original Linocut prints, cards, candles, enamel mugs, FairTrade & Organic tote bags, tea towels and T-shirts.'

I offer prints, cushions and cards.
All my photographes have an element of ‘art’ to them as well as displaying the animal.

Frances Greenwood- Jewellery. -'I hand make jewellery from Sterling Silver often featuring accents of Gold, Copper and Semi Precious Gemstones.

I live with my young family in the countryside just north of Sheffield where we enjoy a consciously slow, outdoors lifestyle. I am often found at the bench late in the evening, in my Garden Studio, enjoying the owls who nest in the trees above my head! Much of the inspiration for my work comes from my love of nature, but my making process is quite intuitive. I sit at my bench and go where the materials lead me, working with the feeling stones give, mixing textures, shapes and forms until I come up with pieces I would love to wear, and hopefully you will too!'

Brian Holland - 'I have worked in my present studio at Yorkshire Artspace’s Persistence Works for over 20 years. Here I continue to explore possibilities of expressing my responses to the visual/ physical world via the plastic media of clay. I have made sculptures exploring the body language of individual and figure groups, I have made vessels, some coiled , some made with slabs of clay and others thrown. These have often been wood fired in Anagamma kilns, or alternatively fired in an electric kiln, some have been fired using the Raku process. Recently I have been coiling life size heads fired in electric kilns, mostly stoneware though I have now moved onto exploring the possibilities of earthenware clays. This includes more heads, jars slip painted plates, and slabbed forms.'

Eleanor Rogerson Enamel and Copper - 'I make copper and enamelled copper items, usually starting from sheet copper. Depending on the item I want to create, I use a variety of techniques including cutting, shaping, texturing, fold-forming, brazing, polishing and enamelling. The items I create include bowls, flowers, tealight holders, wall hangings, garden decorations and jewellery. I am mostly self-taught, with my business evolving from a day taster in enamelling several years ago! I absolutely love Art At The House and look forward to attending every year.'

Jane Middleton Art & Art Starz - 'Jane illustrates empowered women, focusing on the celebration of the female form and the growth, change and healing we experience as we live our lives and grow. Her curvaceous figures represent perfectly imperfect versions of women. Some of her pieces are inspired by Folk art stylisation.

Jane also uses local landscapes and outdoor experiences as inspiration for her illustration. Places that she has a special connection with are also used as a focus for her work. These landscape pieces are an emphasis of the significance of the great outdoors, fresh air, exploration and its positive impact on our well being.

Jane uses an array of materials however, her preferred medium is inks combined with bleach as its alchemy is a therapeutic practice. She also makes marks using various mixed media to create collage pieces and is developing her printmaking skills by experimenting with collagraph, mono printing and intaglio techniques. She works digitally too.

Nigel Hoyle Ceramics-‘Nigel Hoyle graduated from Bretton Hall College (University of Leeds) in 1992 with a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art and has been making high quality hand-made pottery for exhibitions and commission ever since. In 1995, "A Place in Time" made history as the first contemporary one-man ceramics show at Bury Town Art Gallery.

His work has become better known however, for its adventurous exploration of glaze processes to create sophisticated, multi-layered surfaces.

Recent work is driven by the ephemeral nature of landscape. Its form is constantly hidden and revealed by chance in indeterminate fashion. All one needs to learn about the human condition is exposed in the process of the forming and reforming of the earth’s surface.

A theme that courses through hand-thrown forms and unique ceramic canvases, these layered visions are rarely based on a particular place. They are often interpreted by the viewer as a personal recollection, evoking memories of an experience, a landscape of the mind that demands time with which to form a bond.

For 20 years, work was produced alongside a full-time teaching career, 5 of which were spent in the Middle Eastern state of Qatar, a landscape both visually and culturally that has impacted on current and future projects. In 2016, Scipelei Pottery was established amid a change of focus to produce high quality domestic stoneware pottery and non-conforming glaze surfaces.

In 2022, Nigel exhibited as Featured Artist at Holmfirth Art Week where he has been an invited artist for over 20 years.

He continues to work with a small group of dedicated volunteers to sustain the growth of ArtattheHouse, an event in its 5th year that he founded in 2018 with the help of the brilliant people at in an amazing and unique woodland setting.’
