Time to share some love for SY.GIGS

Sy.gigs is based in Shrewsbury UK. My name is Chris Taylor and I am a music promoter who has historically struggled with depression and anxiety.

Through my passions for music, which has constantly grounded me, I'm trying to build a sense of community and place through alternative music events that benefits wellbeing within my beautiful place ✌️

My passions beyond music are nature, and caring for my friends, family and loves ones. I regard kindness and respect as significant human values.

I host one alternative music event per month in various historic church spaces in Shrewsbury UK. These artists are chosen by me from my own music passions, referrals from gig attendees, and by direct artist requests.

Community...

When I started the Sy.gigs project it was always my ambition to see a community evolve. This has been one of the most pleasurable outcomes achieved to date. Not only seeing friends regularly supporting the venture but new connections being formed and the creation of new friendships. A truly beautiful thing and something I'm immensely proud of 🙏🏼

This is Andy who is looking particularly happy with himself, as he is just about to embark on a travelling adventure.

Andy is a passionate supporter of live music in Shropshire and has always showcased my posters and shared sy flyers. For this I am truly grateful.

Music shops like are a life blood to the local music scene and enable lots of us to access and explore new music. We need to support them to keep them. Without these independent shops we all lose.

Another beautiful 'sold out' event last night with + .biffarini playing ambient electronica at The Unitarian Shrewsbury, as part of Season 2.0 'Letting the Light in', a celebration of alternative music that benefits wellbeing, and creates community and a sense of belonging.

"It felt like my toes were immersed in sunshine after a long distant voyage".

I'd like to take the opportunity to truly thank my friends, supporters and the collaborative efforts of the community in making these events so special and successful.

The final event of the first series will see Stockholm composer and producer Shida Shahabi and her ensemble visit Shrewsbury.

Shida will be joined by Tiny Leaves on 27th October at St Alkmunds Church.

This year saw Shida release her second album, Living Circle, a carefully calibrated blend of classical and electronic elements. Combining ambient and drone techniques with traditional structures, its emotional resonance floats elusively within profoundly atmospheric, uncluttered compositions rich in textural detail and pervaded by a low-end warmth.

It’s going to sound awesome in St Alkmunds.
