There's been a bit of chat over on Bolt Action Scotland. on the subject of the tournament scene for 2025. And a wishlist from players.

We'd discussed running a Bulge event next year, but have decided to postphone (pre-announcement no less).

There are a few reasons for this, I'll try to keep them brief:

1. D-Day Replayed (Public Group) was a massive undertaking and it isn't all wrapped up yet! At the time of writing, Stewart Ainslie hasn't published the final pack and we've still got scenery to distribute and an opportunity for exclusive player merch*!

2. When we Replay again, we'll need even more individual* volunteers within our little crew. Massive thanks again to Brian Forrester who assembled the lions share of coastal defence bunkers and landing craft for D-Day this June. It was a hell of a job to tackle solo! (If we 'Replayed' the scenery build, we'd certainly have wanted more PVA covered hands!)

2B. We'll rely more heavilty on the marketing efforts of our amazing sponsors, particularly those with social reach such as Warlord Games and Sarissa Precision Limited. The resources were there from the start, we never imagined how long it would take to us pull things together for them.

3. We're concious that the new 'Battlegrounds Replayed' brand is nothing but a logo, on ice, right now. There are decisions to be made around how often these events run, where they take place and how dedicated they are to an anniversary year or historic date.

We hope that all who attended D-Day Replayed this June had an incredible time, Narrative Bolt Action events being a bit of a step into the unknown for all of us.

We'll update you again once we've made a little more progress on future battleplans.

Meantime, if you'd like a chat about running Narrative Campaigns, need help with a D-Day themed even of your own***, or want to get involved with the next 'Replayed' give me (Stew) a shout on Facebook Messanger or email: [email protected].

History buffs will all know Osprey Publishing, it’s likely you’ll have an Osprey Games publication or two on your shelves too!

Osprey Games covers a wide range of subjects and game types, including WW2 wargaming books.

As a prize supporter, we received a selection of titles from the Osprey library which were for grabs on the prize table for D-Day Replayed: Operation Overlord.

Thankfully, Euan had plenty to share with us! We’ll save the crit for ourselves and bathe in the compliment!

The lucky winner of a 12-month WW2 Pod: We Have Ways of Making You Talk Patreon membership (worth over £70) chose to remain ‘internet anonymous’. Muttering that ‘socials’ meant something entirely different in 1944...

Thankfully we caught his Commanding Officer, wearing a non-regulation uniform, chatting to James and Al after our event*.

Congratulations Lt. Shuffles! And thanks again to for supporting our prize table at D-Day Replayed: Operation Overlord

We Have Ways of Making You Talk is the most popular WW2 podcast in the world. Hosted by Al Murray and James Holland, the show casts light on unknown tales and explores the depths of the most fascinating period in world history. Its festival - We Have Ways Fest, is the largest WW2 festival in Europe, hosting the greatest historians from across the globe.

Proceeds from the raffle will form part of our overall fundraising efforts to Waterloo Uncovered.

Our founder and Waterloo Uncovered rep, Prof. Tony Pollard and exhausted marketing team (in the body of one human) Stewart Ainslie reunited for D-Day Replayed (a sibling event to Friends of THE GREAT GAME WATERLOO REPLAYED).

Stew, is the creator of the ‘Replayed’ re-roll logo. Bough Studio drew the ‘Great Game’ campaign graphic in 2018.

“To see a second ‘Replayed’ event success almost makes up for the sleepless nights. Though my finger nails may never be clear of spray paint again”

Thanks for joining us Tony, and thanks to our partners for making the delivery of this epic commemorative weekend possible!

New post on the blog!

The first, but not the last, on our Operation Overlord Special Mission - Carentan.

Overlord players all took part in one of four Special Missions. Since this engagement took place in the early hours of June 12th we thought it fitting to rush out a result today!

Hours after wrapping up D-Day Replayed we asked our players for their unfiltered criticism from Probably* the largest amphibious assault of all time (in twenty eight millimetres).

Robbie is Probably* a Carlsberg drinker. We were thrilled with this comment in spite of his detailed list of constructive crit!

An honourable mention goes to his Axis MVE (Most Valuable Equine), 'Dobbin'. His horse-drawn lumber survived all four of Robbie's campaign games!

More to come folks 👀 🫡

Pegasus Bridge from the Allied perspective.

This 6x4 board is one of four ‘specials tables’ present at D-Day Replayed: Operation Overlord over the weekend. The others being Villers-Bocage, Carentan (‘the’ Junction) and Merville Battery.

We relied on our supporters for much of our terrain needs.

Pegasus was provided by our Official Partners, Warlord Games. Their donation which included the Sarissa Precision Limited MDF kit!

Spot miniatures lent to us by Gordon Smith (from History and Games Lab Productions).

In the background, wearing a S.P.I.T. Wargames T-Sh*t, the Axis commander prepares for the Allied assault.
