How can it be 14 years since London 2012?!

A little known fact about me is that I worked on the Opening & Closing ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games ✨

It was the end of my first year at RADA and I was on the costume team. I worked on the making of the ‘Green & Pleasant Land’ costumes, fitted the NHS nurses into their old school uniforms and then spent a couple of days sewing on the feathers to the wings for the cyclists riding through the Arctic Monkeys set ⚡️

I was backstage during the ceremony itself, seeing everything from the wings was a night I will never forget 💫

The first years of my career were spent in theatre production and they taught me the intricacies of detail as well as how to create experiences on a large scale, immersing guests in a narrative and environment totally new and exciting to them - safe to say this is my mantra now when designing florals 🌸

Happy 1st wedding anniversary I&J!

This was one of my favourite weddings of 2023, it was a dream brief of white and green with a hint of blush, and I got to design in my favourite spaces - an ancient village church and a traditional three pole marquee!

Although the weather wasn’t on our side that day we couldn’t dampen the smiles from these two, so excited to start their lives together!

Wishing you all the happiness, and hope there’s a glass of champagne for you this evening 🥂

Why is it we love floral archways so much?

Archways are one of my favourite designs as a florist, they are abundant, versatile and each one is completely unique.

Here are a few fun facts I’ve learnt about archways along the way.

🏛️In ancient Greece they were used to frame the altar for religious ceremonies.

🏡Curved archways are symbolic of the couples future home

🟩Square archways represent stability between the bride and groom

🚪If you have an archway over a doorway its said to reflect your journey into the future together.

I’m very excited for our first one of the season in a couple of weeks time !

How I choose what flowers go in your bouquet?

Creating a bridal bouquet is one of the most important tasks of putting a wedding together and here are the five things I do to make sure they are absolutely perfect for your wedding day 🌸

1 - I ask about what you want! What flowers do you love and hate? How big do want it to be? How do you want it to feel in your hands? All these little details are so important to creating a bouquet that reflects YOU.

2 - I only choose the best of what is available. As a seasonal florist you won’t catch me giving you peonies in September but I can promise you the most beautiful blooms that are full of movement colour and scent that reflect the season you celebrate in.

3 - I take my time. I make sure I allocate specific time in the schedule for me to create your bouquet, make some tweaks and then pop the ribbon on at the last moment for the final flourish.

4 - Keeping it cool. I store the bouquet in a cool space before delivery to make sure it is looking its best for when I give it to you.

5 - Water! Flowers are living things and they need a drink to keep looking fabulous! When I set up at your wedding venue I always leave posy vases out so when the photographs are done you can pop your bouquet back into water to enjoy for days to come.

Combining the crafts of floristry & flower growing 🌿

Floristry and growing flowers are a combined craft and each enhances the other. I grow everything from seed so I can make sure my brides & clients only ever get the best available in the season. I can also grow things that you can’t buy in a market to make each design extra special 🌸

Claire and Josh were married in an early April celebration .

To create their wedding flowers we used every spring bloom in the garden and their day was filled with tulips, ranunculus, anemones and scented narcissi. Flowers were a huge part of the day and when Claire first got in touch she gave me a list of all the blooms that were meaningful in their relationship and it was such a joy to weave these into the designs!

Your wedding flowers don’t have to be off the shelf, they can be personal to you, your relationship and loved ones and can fill your day with details that make your wedding uniquely yours.

The more delicate designs are often the unsung heroes of Wedding Flowers.

Personal designs such as Buttonholes, Corages & Flowercrowns I think encapsulate the whole wedding, they are the icing on the cake and featured in most of the photos you’ll look back on time after time.

They are so sentimental as often a bride will ask for a special bloom to be included in her Grooms buttonhole, and the look of glee on a flower girls face when she gets to put her flower crown on for the first time is something I never get bored of.

It’s all in the detail 💫The bride stitched these print napkins herself and they had the initials of every guest!

The greenhouse is in full spring at this time of year!

Filled with seedlings from early Spring sowings I am so excited to get everything out and in the ground as soon as possiible.

But for now, all these beautiful seeds need to move to my polytunnel to be looked after by my wonderful friend whilst I’m on my Easter holidays next week, and then as soon as I get back it’s time to start the dahlias!

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be inviited to decorate for Bisley Marquees Open Day, it was such a treat to be given two completely different spaces to dress - their traditonal and clear span marquees, which offered completely different styles and spaces to their couples.

In the tradiitonal we wanted to showcase the Bisley flower hoops so we went with a disco jungle theme complete with disco balls and cascading greenery suspended above the bar.

For the clearspan we wanted to introduce height into the marquee and highlight the different linings to choose from so I created tall vases filled with flowers which draw the eye up as you enterered the space, and kept to neutral spring colour palette with whites greens and pinks.

When it came to the guest arrival I wanted it to pop! So often we work with soft colours so I wanted to try something different by embracing Spring and using yellow as the primarly colour palette. Filled with fosythia, tulips and narcissi it certainly made an entrance!

What happens to the flowers after my wedding?

This is a question I get asked all the time. You are so excited to see the designs, enjoy the most spectacular wedding flowers that really bring your celebration to life, only to wake up the next day and find they have all gone!

I hate waste, and it’s so upsetting to see beautiful blooms get binned the day after simply because the party is over, when they actually have plenty of life left in them. So instead of disposal, I like to return to your wedding the following day and create bunches for you and your guests to take home.

These aren’t elaborate hand-tied bouquefts with ruffles of ribbon and paper, instead they are simple posies given as a momento of the day to be enjoyed on your kitchen table 🌿
