It was a fabulous day with fabulous people, The Green Gathering 2024 💚

We’d like to give a special mention to Glantawe Riverside Park - the stunning location for our little festival, and to the people who volunteer there, preserving its natural beauty. A heartfelt thank you to Sarah, Clare, Jon and the Riverside team, who gave up countless hours to get it event-ready for you all to enjoy.

PLEASE, if you are able to park at the Rec, the Alloy Industrial Estate, or any other parking area in Pontardawe and walk along the cycle path to Glantawe Riverside Park, that would be hugely appreciated. It’s getting a little busy here! ☺️

Black Mountain Adventures UK is a small, family-run organisation which aims at connecting children and adults to nature through bushcraft, science and nature crafts. They run sessions for schools, home educating families, flying starts, parent toddler sessions and children with additional needs. We will be running some outdoor parent-child sessions at Riverside to connect everyone to nature and one another, come along to join in with campfires, marshmallows, rockets and sensory play!

Jody has been teaching medicinal and edible foraging for over 10 years. After discovering the magic of foraging in her teens she went on to study herbal medicine at university and work alongside her husband at The Herbal Clinic in Swansea. She loves introducing people to the plants, their unique personalities, and their healing (and delicious!) potential.

🌱 Mark Humphries - The Climate Climate Crisis and the Collapse of Civilisation? 🌱

🗣️ Come join Mark for an engaging talk…. Why did the Roman Empire fall?

In the popular imagination (sometimes deployed, even today, for dangerous political ends), the end of that empire is usually associated with the “barbarian invasions". For decades, investigations by scholars have shown that the reality was much more complex than that.

In particular, the last twenty years has seen scholars much more willing to link the transformations of the Roman world to environmental factors, including pandemic disease and climatic factors. This short talk will introduce the audience to the evidence for this debate and explore how we in the 21st century might view the events of more than 1500 years ago with new eyes.

Mark Humphries has been Professor of Ancient History at Swansea University since 2007. His teaching and research focus on the first millennium of the Common Era and the transformation of the ancient to the medieval world.
