As you may note there is a storm ⛈️ scheduled to make an appearance and Dickensian Evening in Tavistock has had to be scaled back due to the weather. Projected wind speeds mean that the outside events run by Tavistock BID cannot go ahead.

The good news is that late night shopping 🎄🛍🎁 will still happen on Friday 6th December with the majority of businesses staying open late. There is loads going on to welcome you and places to eat, drink & be merry, as long as it is safe to do so. Here is a little snapshot 🤩👉

🌬🌬Tavistock Dickensian Evening🌬🌬
Weather warnings associated with Storm Darragh mean that we have taken the very difficult decision to cancel our much loved Dickensian Evening outdoor event. With wind speeds projected to reach 55mph, it is not safe for us to proceed with all the entertainment and outdoor markets that we had planned. The safety of our visitors and participants is of primary importance.

However, all is not lost. The evening will go back to basics. Businesses are staying open late to provide a late-night shopping experience in the true spirit of Dickensian. Tavistock Pannier Market Butchers' Hall Tavistock Guildhall Heritage Centre Tavistock Museum will also all be open as will the fabulous Christmas Tree Festival with added entertainment in St Eustachius' Parish Church Tavistock.

There is free parking from 3pm in town centre car parks, which continues on all Thursday and Friday evenings throughout December. Please note that the Park & Ride service will NOT be in operation.

Thank you for your support and understanding. It has not been easy at such an important time of the year for our town.

Westcountry Potters’ Market - Saturday October 26th, 2024

10am-4pm

The Westcountry Potters Association (WPA) is happy to announce that their Tavistock Potters’ Market is back again for our 5th market in the wonderful Butchers Hall. This event has proved very popular among Tavistock residents and this year we have 29 potters showing their wares, with some potters new to the market. This is a great chance to do some early Christmas shopping with a huge variety of styles of work available. The range of work on offer includes domestic ware, mugs, vases, and bowls, and more sculptural and decorative items. Something for every taste and pocket. A visit to the Potters’ Market will add some new inspiration to your visit to the Saturday market, and possibly a great place to start your Christmas shopping.

Themed Market & Events Venue

Located in the heart of Tavistock, within the Pannier Market complex, Butchers’ Hall is home to a fantastic array of vibrant themed markets and events, following the official launch on Saturday 14th July 2018. The Grade II listed building which was constructed in the 1860’s for the seventh Duke of Bedford as a market place, was in 2016, the first in a series of historically significant buildings in Tavistock to undergo conservation work as part of the Tavistock Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI).

The extensive restoration work of Butchers’ Hall honours the building’s rich history as a market venue, showcasing the wonderfully preserved butchers’ tables as well as almost all of the original features and architecture.

Butchers’ Hall offers a diverse range of opportunity as both a themed market and events venue and so, if you are looking for something a little different, that inspires and celebrates the very best of what our region has to offer, follow us on social media & visit Butchers’ Hall for a truly unique experience that complements our award winning Pannier Market & beautiful bustling market town.
