The woman who grew her own pair of jeans.

For many people, the hunt for the perfect pair of jeans is a challenging one. But one woman made it even more complex after setting herself the challenge of growing a pair from scratch

Around 70m pairs of jeans are sold in the UK each year but Justine Aldersey-Williams owns the only pair that has been homegrown, home-dyed and homespun in the UK.

Aldersey-Williams, a textile artist who teaches botanical fabric dyeing at The Wild Dyery – her studio in Hoylake, Wirral – set herself the challenge of growing her own jeans in 2022 after becoming passionate about the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

Exclusive: Record number of women starting businesses despite funding challenges.

A record number of female-owned companies have been created this year but women are still struggling to access funding, according to new research shared with City A.M.

The data also found that London has the highest proportion of female-led businesses of any UK region.

Latest figures from The Gender Index, using data from analytics firm mnAI, showed women have created 160,730 new companies to date this year – bringing total active female-led firms to 874,730.

The number of new female-led firms is up from some 150,000 last year, which itself was a record, according to a major review by then Natwest boss Dame Alison Rose.

Work-Life Balance the top reason Women become entrepreneurs, new research finds.

Work-life balance is leading driver behind the ‘marked rise’ in the number of women founding businesses across the UK, according to research from Small Business Britain.
The research revealed that 39 per cent of female entrepreneurs launched their business in order to improve their work-life balance.

It was also found that 25 per cent jumped into entrepreneurship having reassessed their careers after having children, while 30 per cent became entrepreneurs to take greater control over where they worked.

Work-life balance is leading driver behind the ‘marked rise’ in the number of women founding businesses across the UK, according to research from Small Business Britain.
