We were truly saddened to hear that Janice Long died yesterday after a short illness. Janice was a staunch supporter of Loopallu from the very start and was our compere for many years. She loved coming to Loopallu when her other commitments permitted, but above all else, Janice loved music, watching, listening and championing it. Our hearts go out to Paul, Fred, Blue and all of Janice's family and friends at this time.

Goodnight Janice, we are eternally grateful to have known you.

We're delighted to reveal the newest addition to our little gin family: Seven Crofts Fisherman’s Strength, a navy strength bottling of our award winning Seven Crofts Gin.

Bottled at 57% ABV, this small batch gin is hand distilled and has a flavour profile that’s juniper led with forest floor notes coming through and notes of ripe blueberry, cracked black pepper, pink pepper and touch of spicy coriander.

Seven Crofts Fisherman’s Strength uses a distinctive blend of traditional and signature botanicals including coriander, pink peppercorns, cubebs, cardamom, angelica and fresh lemon peel. Some are added straight into the pot while others are steamed to preserve their delicate character. A perfect accompaniment to fish and seafood, best enjoyed in a martini or classic G&T with a slice or twist of orange.

Founded by Helen Chalmers and Robert Hicks, The Highland Liquor Company is based in Ullapool. Like Seven Crofts, which is named after the original seven private dwellings that made up Ullapool in 1791, Fisherman’s Strength’s name was inspired by its setting. Fisherman’s Strength celebrates the village’s thriving fishing community and the fact that Ullapool was originally founded for the British Fisheries Society.

Co-founder, Robert Hicks said:
“We developed our Seven Crofts Fisherman’s Strength gin in a tribute to Ullapool’s fishing community which has been at the heart of the village for more than two hundred years. Our small batch handcrafted gin celebrates this community: past, present and future!”

Having won Best New Launch Design at the World Gin Awards 2020 for its original bottle, it’s no surprise the new gin is presented in the same classic style – a tall, genever bottle this time featuring a blue ombre inspired by its coastal roots. Robert and Helen worked again with Glasgow-based design company D8 to create a complementary design.

If you are struggling to understand the concept of necessary change, say hello to your privilege. Now is not the time to be quiet nor complacent, now is the time to step up and support our people! It doesn’t matter how many followers you have, what’s important is the necessary change and the necessary justice that must happen urgently and that can only happen with every single one us uniting for this movement. Found this photo taken at Loopallu Festival a few weeks ago. Got me thinking again about how great Ullapool is for creativity in all sorts of ways and Loopallu was no exception. I was one of many who attended every Loopallu. As well as fun times with friends, old and new, it provided some great musical experiences for me, such as a music session on the local beach with Mumford and Sons and singing my songs at The Ceilidh Place with The Magic Numbers and Kassidy harmonising with me. I think I took these moments for granted but on reflection we were all so lucky to have this great fest in the west on our doorstep. Thanks so much Robert and Team Loop 🎶🎵
