Service

Most reputable services will offer similar pricing structures and it is very helpful to them if you do know exactly what you would like before you contact them.

Then they can get an immediate sense of how they can accommodate your needs.

The first question needs to be ‘are they available on the date?’

Once you have narrowed down your search to those who fit the bill, and they have given you details of their service, prices and what’s included, ask to see their Terms and Conditions and Cancellation Policy. (Sorry, but you need to know.)

It is then a good idea to arrange a date for both of you to view the car, take a seat inside and image how it will make you feel when you step out on your big day.

This also gives you a chance to discuss any little extras that you might like, red carpet for the arrival, champagne, nibbles and soft refreshments if you are planning an extra-long photo shoot and of course any photos that you would like to have taken with the car.

Aside from the old cliché ‘first impressions count’ we all know that the moment you as the bride step out of the car is almost as memorable and important to you as the moment your husband-to-be first sees you in your gown. How you feel at that moment also sets the tone for how beautiful and relaxed you will feel walking down the aisle.

Logistics

How many people are there in the brides wedding party?

Typically, the car would take the mother of the bride, bridesmaids and/or page boys, then come back for the bride and her father/person giving her away. So again, dependant on the distance to be travelled and the timings, you might want to consider a second car for them.

Comfort

So, in both cases above, the consideration needs to be seating and space for dresses, so as not to be crushed and creased. Any mother of bride’s hats might be best placed in their box and given to the driver to place carefully in the boot. Bouquets should be handed to the driver as you enter the car (see our tips for ‘How to Arrive With Grace’ and either held once seated or if they will be safe, placed in the boot.

Practicalities

Self-drive or chauffeured?

The distance that you will travel from home/overnight accommodation to the place where the marriage ceremony will take place.

An open-topped sports car or horse and carriage may fit the image, but if you have more than 5 miles to travel in busy Saturday traffic, may not help your last minute nerves. Equally comfortable seating, plenty of floor space and headroom, to accommodate layers of dress fabric or the veil and maybe a tiara.
